Just finished watching Season 5 again, and I've always wondered why another Slayer isn't called after Buffy dies? In season 6, she says to Giles, Someone else would have been called... Anyone every heard an offical answer to this? Any speculations?

She wasn't the real slayer in the slayer line, Faith was.

It's always bothered me that another slayer wasn't called. It can be explained away, but it seemed like an obvious, easy way to thicken the plot by throwing a third mystery slayer into the mix. It could have added an extra layer to Season 6, and would have foreshadowed the end of season 7 pretty well.
But the way I've always justified it to myself is Buffy didn't technically die within our realm of existence, the life was drained from her body within a dimensional portal outside the fabric of our reality, the gateway between our world (hence all that purple glowy crap) and all the hell dimensions trying to tear their way out. So her death took place outside in this other-wordly gateway which tricked the slayer line. It's like to the slayer line, Buffy didn't die, she just went *pop* and ceased to exist because the slayer line only deals with our world. I hope that makes sense.

The answer is that Buffy's "next-in-line" was already called. It was Kendra. When ONE slayer dies, another ONE is called. Buffy already died in Season One (oh another one. freaky). End of story.

Yeah, Buffy was out of the loop. Buffy's replacement was Kendra, and hers Faith. Buffy could die a thousand times and there still wouildn't be a new slayer call, cause it already happend.

I always wondered more about Faith in a coma...she was practically found dead, right?

Plotwise, Faith was in a coma so that she could wake up, screw with Buffy's life, escape to LA, and find redemption. Not only did it make good TV, but it played into Joss's love of people redeeming themselves.
Plus, putting her in a coma made it to where another Slayer wouldn't be called. It would have become a question of which new Slayer would be featured each season (S2=Kendra, S3=Faith, S4=?). Comas might put somebody out of the picture, but they're still alive.

I always wondered more about Faith in a coma...she was practically found dead, right? I think the key word is practically. Theoretically if a Slayers heart misses as much as a beat the new slayer is called, as long as that doesn't happen it's all good.

I thought they explained that in Angel season 5 with the Slayer that cut Spikes arms off. DIdnt the say she had been that way for years? Meaning arounf the same time Buffy died in Season 5.

Oh damn! I forgot all about that. Is that really what happened? I thought she was an activated potential after Buffy made all the slayers.

I think Dana was crazy for years but only crazy and a slayer since Chosen. Yer Dana wasn't a slayer before Chosen she was just a pure nut job. If there was a new slayer called when Buffy died again then she would have been in Season 7 without a doubt. Way i see it is. Theres a list of names. Buffy's got crossed off when she died the first time. Next in line was Kendra then Faith so when Buffy died again her name was already crossed off so she couldn't call another slayer. :\

Thanks everyone for your theories-Still Buffy does say to Giles that another would have been called if they had not brought her back to life. Don't remeber the episode, early season 6. It makes sense though, that Kendra was Buffy's next in line so no more can be called.
