don't you just hate it when reviewers say things about a new tv series and say its like a new buffy ... in my opinion, you cannot beat buffy... even angel wasnt as good as i think they made angel out to be too young and hip and not the tortured soul he was in buffy... share thoughts please!!!

They did it with Hex in the Uk they said it was the "british buffy" it so was not i mean nothing can be buffy except buffy! lol I think they do it just to get buffy fans watching because they know its a dedicated fan base

The way I see it, Buffy is a new genre. So many shows can belong to the genre but they would never be better than...because you simply can't compare.

I see lot's of Buffy-like in Veronica Mars, yet the show is good on is own. And Hex had a pretty good second season, but still it never was comparative to Buffy. Same with Charmed and many other shows.

I think there'll be nothing like Buffy .. at least not for me. It will always be THE TV Show, MY TV Show ! It's the only show that mixed battle, humour, sadness, on the same time !
Even if they try to do a same kind of show, it'll be a poor copy, or at least never as good as this one ! It was one of a kind show !

The only show that I thought could accurately claim to be 'The New Buffy' was Angel.

Unless another show about vampire slaying emerges, I don't think anyone can ever claim there is a new Buffy, in my opinion.

I think this could be said in reverse too though. it just depends on your perspective.

When Buffy debuted, it could have been refert to as the new Xena.
When Xena started, it could have been referenced as the new Wonder Woman.

The list goes on and on. I think that it is as simple as this. People are always going to be intrested in strong female characters so shows with young, strong women will keep poping up. The comparisons are only natural.

This all stems from a serious lack of stong feminine roles on TV. Any time there is a new show with a female lead they compare it to Buffy because they have to. Most portrayals of women on TV are very poor and insulting. If a female character has anything to add besides standing their looking attractive as all the male character try to get into her pants of course it'll be compared to Buffy....so I propose this...

Take pride when a new show is compared to Buffy...this is a good thing...it means the show has a stong feminine role, something that is all to rare in TV!!!

I'm not sure if this is about saying you'll like shows better than Buffy or as much as Buffy or what, but I thought of Angel as The New Buffy, but I like Smallville at the same time. But you won't find me in any Smallville Forums, so I am definitly a bigger buffy fan and nothing can compare.

I think it's not accurate to say that anything is "the new Buffy," simply because Buffy was so many things. It was so deepy and well-written. There were metaphors every week and very clever dialogue, as well as extremely well-developed characters.

Some people might think that anything that comes along in the vampire genre, the horror genre, or with a savvy or physically strong female lead is like Buffy. But Buffy's appeal and lasting diehard fan base comes from the many layers of quality in the show. It also has different aspects that appeal to different fans. A lot of shows are much more two dimensional.

I've recently gotten into Smallville. I can really see the Buffy-influence of Alfred Gough on this show. It's both emotional and Supernatural, but I don't think it's nearly as well-written as Buffy was. Not so funny, either.

There NEVER going to be another Buffy...... not even the comic could do what the show did. I miss the show and the comic helps but its not the same to me!

there can never be another buffy. The character dynamic, the irony, the emotions, the storyline, the plots and twists and how everything comes back around.....and all the little inside jokes! i mean seriously, the writers were geniuses and the cast may have disliked each other off screen, but the chemistry they had on...you just cant ask for anything better.
