Seasons 1-3 are in 4:3 format and seasons 4-7 are in 16:9 format. If I zoom in once on my DVD player on the 16:9 seasons will they convert to 4:3? Just a thought.

I can do that with my 4:3 computer screen, zoom in so it only cuts off the sides, but I'm not sure if it would correctly with a DVD player/TV You'd probably lose some on the top and bottom, and depending on the zoom left & right as well still
Plus I've never really cared about it, I never really notice it to be honest. So sometimes there's some dead space to the right or left, who cares? Plus in episodes like "Chosen" with all the fighting and awesome CGI, it looks frakking awesome in widescreen

Oh no I love the widescreen format. I wish seasons 1-3 could be in it too, but they still look cool. I was just watching season 7 episodes today and was just curious whether it would work. It does look amazing!

But the show was framed for 4:3, so when they present it on the DVD in 16:9, you get stuff on the sides that you're really not "supposed" to see. More than once on lists of 'goofs', I've seen people mention that in "This Year's Girl", when Buffy and Faith fall down the stairs, you can see the second cameraman on the left side of the screen. It's not really a goof, because if the show were presented the way it's supposed to be, you wouldn't be able to see him (you can't on the R1 DVDs).
The "Angel" S2 DVDs are in 16:9, even tho the season was framed for, and originally aired in, 4:3. So you get a couple of 'goofs' caused by things on the edges of the picture that you were never really intended to see...
