The "Buffy"/"Angel" Viewers' Crossover Guide

When I re-watch my DVDs, I like to try to do it in a way that both shows match up, in terms of the crossovers. For the first couple of years of "Angel", it's pretty easy to figure out. For the fourth season (S7 of "Buffy") it can be kinda difficult to juggle. But I did finally work it out awhile back, and thought I'd share it for anyone else who might find it useful:

Pretty simple here: watch one episode of "Buffy", then one of "Angel", and just alternate all the way thru. But really, you just wanna make sure you watch "The Harsh Light of Day" (BtVS 4.03) before "In the Dark" (AtS 1.03), "The Bachelor Party" (AtS 1.07) before "Pangs" (BtVS 4.08), and "Pangs" before "I Will Remember You" (AtS 1.08). Later in the year, be sure you've watched "Who Are You" (BtVS 4.16) before "Five by Five" (AtS 1.18), and "Sanctuary" (AtS 4.19) before "The Yoko Factor" (BtVS 4.20)

Again, just watch one "Buffy" and then one "Angel", and you'll be good. But specifically, you want to watch "Fool for Love" (BtVS 5.07) before "Darla" (AtS 2.07); "Redefinition" (AtS 2.11) before "Crush" (BtVS 5.14); and "The Gift" (BtVS 5.22) before "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb" (AtS 5.22).

This is where it gets tricky. You can alternate for the first half of the year, but somewhere along the way you need to squeeze two extra episodes of "Buffy" in there somewhere, because you need to watch "Lies My Parents Told Me" (BtVS 7.17) before "Orpheus" (AtS 4.15). Then you need to watch the final 7 episodes of "Angel" while only watching 3 eps of "Buffy", because "Home" (AtS 4.22) comes before "End of Days" (BtVS 7.21).

Exactly. Also, for S7/4, it's much harder to keep track of if you do it based on airdate, because if you notice there are blocks of 3 or 4 episodes of the same show all in a row. Not only is that harder to keep straight, but personally I like to go back and forth and watch them fairly evenly, usually one of each on any given night.

For 7/4, the chart I posted is technically correct, but for practical purposes, here's how I like to do it: Watch 2 episodes of "Buffy" first, to get two eps up on "Angel" right away, then alternate--B703, A401, B704, A402, B705, A403, etc. That'll get you to B717 and A415 on the same night. Then try to finish up the seasons on 4 nights/afternoons where you have a little over 2 hours free to watch 3 eps per:

Night 1: "Dirty Girls" (B718), "Players" (A416), "Inside Out" (A417)
Night 2: "Empty Places" (B719), "Shiny Happy People" (A418), "The Magic Bullet" (A419)
Night 3: "Touched" (B720), "Sacrifice" (A420), "Peace Out" (A421)
Night 4: "Home" (A422), "End of Days" (B721), "Chosen" (B722)
