It would have been wierd having Xander be gay. I honestly can't picture it now. Xander is a homophobe haha and we know what that says about him really.

I heard that Joss said that if Xander turned out to be gay, he and Spike would have hooked up. So I'm glad that it turned out this way, since I'm not sure if Xander would have been strong enough to deal with a vampire's love. I've read enough fanfics where that doesn't turn out well. Besides, with Buffy Spike got a soul. Not sure if he would have gotten that with Xander.
Although, my neither regions would not have hated Spander in the show...

Right now it sounds like a huge joke to me. Was Joss Whedon kidding?? I think it's a good thing after all that Willow and not Xander turned out to be gay because many people (homophobic people) would have been turned off by that and BTVS would have been called a gay show. Everybody knows that gay female characters on a show sounds a lot hotter to most viewers than a Xander/Spike storyline. |

But Mathieu, like Joss said "I'd rather have hundre people who have to watch the show than a thousand that likes to watch it". The true fans would have stayed. Although if the rating got to low we might not have had so many seasons...

I'd like to have a quote from Joss that says that he would have done that. The closest thing I think he's ever got to saying that was saying that he was either going to have Xander or Willow be revealled to be gay, but went for Willow when Seth Green left. I just don't think the Joss quote you're saying exists, because I know a lot of people who would have tattooed it on their foreheads if Joss had actually said that.

Not that I minded having a gay male couple on the show, but it would have put off too many people and the show's ratings wouldn't have been the same. Hence, fewer seasons maybe... But it's a shame that I have to say that. |
