Ginger Snaps

So I've been debating to myself if I should post this here, despite it not being strictly about Buffy, but I felt it was too good not to share with you guys, and it will satisfy those with an insatiable hunger for more Joss. This might get taken down, but oh well, it was worth a try.

So in 2000, a Canadian cult film was released called Ginger Snaps. I was instantly drawn to this franchise because of my love for Joss, and this simply felt so very Joss inspired. Strong female characters, devilish wit, clever dialogue, horror, drama, humor, amazing acting, and a tear jerking ending.

Like Buffy, this film takes a supernatural element, and uses it as a metaphor for real life in a clever and original way that instantly hooked me. The movie in a nutshell is about two teenage sisters obsessed with death, taking place in American suburbs. One night while taking revenge on a bitchy high school girl, one of the sisters is bitten by a werewolf. The film is about her slow change into the werewolf, and how the two sisters deal with it and how it affects their strong yet complex sisterly bond.

If you guys want to give this a chance, you can watch it and the sequel on Youtube, I will provide a link. For anyone who loves Joss themes and inspired take on a horror classic, please watch! This movie and the sequel are my two favorite movies of all time that have affected me in my life, right up there with Pulp Fiction and Serenity. Enjoy guys. It is too good to not watch.

I love, love, love Ginger Snaps! One of the best horror movies since Scream, imo. It is the perfect blend of a werewolf movie with satire on teenage life, and is just an all around fun movie to watch. I'd recommend it to any horror/comedy fans.

I thought it was a very good movie, very good acting - but terrible werewolf effect. Joss & Co has no reason any longer to be ashamed of the "big gay possum"...

I think this movie has awesome werewolf effects! I like how the werewolf isn't completely covered in fur, and actually looks like something that might once have been human, which i think is the point. The werewolf looks WAYYY better than the werewolf in the Angel episode Unleashed (which is a homage to ginger snaps) or the Season 2 Buffy episode

Wyndam, as much as I love the first movie, the sequel to me is the real masterpiece. I love the darker tone, droning industrial and feeling of claustrophobia that saturates that movie. Every death and blood splatter feels like a work of art, as morbid as that sounds (just watch the plastic sheet death in the basement, you'll see what i mean). Also, as beautiful as Ginger is, Bridget was always my favorite character, and watching how much stronger she is than Ginger when it comes to dealing with her transformation is just satisfying. i'm in the minority probably, but I just love Ghost! I just want to give her a hug. Lol. I love her chemistry with Bridget, and that part where Bridget sort of feels bad for her and they semi-cuddle for a second, never fails to elicit a huge AWWW from me. Haha. Everything about that movie is perfect.
