Did anyone else thing it was strange when Giles got the Ripper back story? First of all in the beginning of the series Buffy had to explain to Giles "the whole sucking thing" about how a vamp becomes a vamp. Also, if Giles was involved with dark magic like Igon and worshiping chaos and all that, how did he ever get a Watcher's job.
Also thought it was silly that Kendra wasn't allowed to talk to boys but man, did she have a lot of makeup and big jewelry going on. Also, the bright colors and midriff. Her behavior and attitude did not go with her appearance.
There are a few other moments that I can't think of where I was like "Oh, c'mon now, that's just silly".
Any other ones that made you feel that way?

In Life Serial I found myself throwing popcorn at the TV and yelling "WHAT?? JUST DRAW HER OUT TO A SECLUDED AREA, OUT THE NEURAL INHIBITER ON HER AND KILL HER!!! THAT THING IS SO OVER POWERED..."
That ep is so entertaining yet has so many issues.

I don't think she was exactly explaining it to him, more like the audience, but she did that through him. I dunno. My answer makes sense in my head...

It always made sense to me that Giles was just testing her knowledge, like he always did. Definitely a filler-in for the audience.

I thought the Ripper story was an ingenious backstory for Giles. It gave him depth and made his transistion throughout the show more believable.
First, I always thought Buffy's speech about the "whole sucking thing" to Giles was just her going off on a tangent. Giles never actually said he didn't know, he just asked if the boy had been turned.
Second, Giles explained to Buffy that he didn't have a choice in becoming a Watcher. He was told that his father was a Watcher and by connection Giles would be too. Giles said he took the news badly and went through a "rebellious phase". After that turned out badly he straighten up.

The end of Normal Again... Just awful in it's "How clever am I?" writing... Seems like an episode of Charmed at that point.
