I have been watching the news since last night. It's devastatingly depressing. Then I go to film class today and we watched Crash.....Depressing.
On my way home from class I was thinking about the film in relation to the tragedy at Virginia Tech. I got to thinking that we are doomed to repeat incidents like this tragedy unless we can learn as a species, not as black and white people, men and women, gay or straight, to love eachother...not in spite of our differences but because of them.

I've been watching too and am deeply saddened by the tragedy. I agree with you Buffyfanone that we need to love each other. The sad part is that even though this incident has touched people now. I feel that it will eventually be forgotten and repeat itself because the depth of the reason why these types of shootings occur will still be there. A lot of people(children and adults) feel so empty inside. There are deep issues that separate us by class, race, sex, etc and unfortunately I don't see that changing anytime soon. I think that the Gun laws should be stricter but I don't know if anything wll be done with that as well.
I have on my mind a show that Oprah did where she took a high school that had a lot of race and social problems. The students did several exercises with sharing and opening up and by the end of the segment they were able to learn so much more about each other. It humanized them and I think that's what's lacking sometimes.

I agree about the gun laws but I am going to leave it at that. I don't want this thread to become a gun law debate. I also agree that there are serious internal issues involved within the mind of someone who commits a tragedy of this magnitude. I really do hope that you are wrong about this happening again. Hopefully, some light can come from this tragedy and perhaps this can serve as a lesson that we really do just need to love one another and cherish all of humanity for what it is. I am anxious to hear more about the motives behind this vicious attack. I know that this will not change anything or really serve any purpose because there is nothing that could ever justify the actions that led to 30+ innocent lives lost.... It just helps to know Peace -Jon

Oh, how I mourn for those lives lost at Virginia Tech. Deeply saddened, devastated...I'm just so depressed about it.
</dramatic>
It really is sad. Sad for the people and the people's families. But it seems like everybody I know (I'm not talking about this board) tries to make it about them and it's just so irritating. Like with 9/11...people who didn't even reside in New York getting all butthurt like they knew the people personally. People need to learn how to mourn without making it some sort of self-piteous fiasco that ties into their own lives.
It is horrible, but I'm not going to try and make it all about me.

Here, here! I know what you're talking about Firecracker. Like they make a scene any chance they get! It's not a pity party for anyone else but those involved.
I'm deeply saddened by this tragedy.
I don't even know what I would do if someone I knew would have been involved. I couldn't bear it if a loved one was gunned down! I feel for them. It's depressing how people in this world can be. Though justice can never truly be served, I wish those who have been affected all the best and that they have strength to get through this hard time!
