There was no issue made of angel making that guy shoot himself in conviction, or killing a butler with cutlery in just rewards. Since when was souled good guy angel killing people?

I don't really consider our ensouled vampires because they didn't have souls. In the fifth season of Angel, he and Spike are talking and Spike reminds Angel that they were innocent victims once upon a time, and they were. Exactly...so why do the scoobies hate spike so much? He didnt have a soul. and after he got one, they still hated him. WHY? he did so much good, even before getting his soul. But everyone accepts anya. its okay that she killed a ton of people while still (presumably) had a soul. hypercritical.

I think Buffy can get away with killing those warrior guys because they were actively attacking her. Its self defense. No one would care much if Willow had killed Warren (without magic) as he was trying to kill or rape her. They cared because she went all crazy and was torturing him in cold blood. Warren deserved to suffer and die, but doing it was hurting Willow in the long run more than it was hurting him. That's why I think torture is always wrong-- even if the person being tortured is evil and deserves it, it damages the person doing it.
I totally agree that Anya getting a free pass makes no sense, though.
And I always thought Xander was a little too harsh on Angel. Angel is like someone with multiple personality disorder. Maybe you have to kill him just to protect the world in case he goes evil again, but is Angel morally responsible for the things done by Angelus? He doesn't even remember them at first. If so, shouldn't Xander be given similar treatment for the things he did while Hyena-possessed?
Now, I can see why they were harsh on Spike with a chip-- he made it pretty clear that he would still be hurting people if he could (so would Anya if they hadn't taken away her powers). But once Spike gets his soul back they should really be more accepting. His is the best redemption of all since he got his soul back on purpose.

I think with Anya,it's basically that she is pretty harmless for most of the time that buffy knows her. Buffy really doesn't like to kill anybody who can't actually cause harm (like post-chip Spike) and that's pretty much the case with Anya post-The Wish. It is worth mentioning that it takes everybody a long time to like Anya-certainly there are tensions with Willow well into Season 5-so it's not like they immediately roll over for her or anything. And when Anya does regain her powers, tensions do start to develop....
Best wishes,
Scott

It's a very hard topic. She never lost her soul and enjoyed evisceration and mayhem, but was killed by her remorse in Season 7.
Maybe the demon within her has something to do with this. As Aud and shortly after cursing Olaf, she doesn't have second thoughts and I guess she just got more and more used to killing people and exacting vengeance, but once she was made human again in Season 3 (and falling in love with Xander) she was reminded/reaccustomed to morality and disgust.
No proper explanation, but turning into a human again and Xander made her a moral being again - all the way.
