"I Only Have Eyes For You" has gotta be one of my favorite episodes & I'd say it's rather underrated. I don't think it's thought of as a bad episode, but I also don't think it's remembered when listing the greatest episodes. It has a monster of the week plot- but that's part of what makes it so good- it's such a classic early buffy episode. The story of the ghosts from 1955 is done very well and is spooky and the way it parallels angel & buffy's story is masterful!
Are there any other episodes that are typically underrated??

Bad Eggs. I think that's mainly because people are sick of the parasite-storylines that we see in so many movies.
I still like it. It's one of those stand alone episodes that may not give that much to the over all season arc or characters arcs, but it's nice entertainment.

"Out of Mind, Out of Sight"
I thought it was tied for best with "Prophecy Girl" or at least a close second for the best episode of season 1. Another villain of the week episode. Not the most original villian as well. But I think it really hits the nail on the head with the whole high school hierarchy, jocks vs nerds/geeks/freaks/outsiders, and the struggles to find your place is in high school. My favorite scene was when Buffy and Cordy had their chat about being popular and the ironic thing is you work so hard to be popular just to get to the top, but at the end you're pretty much alone. It was just very reminiscent of my high school years so yeah I knew first hand exactly what Cordy was talking about.

Most people just look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them that.

I love the Harmony centered episodes too. "Harm's Way" and Disharmony". I get lots of "What?" or "Why?" I'm not even a big Harmony fan.

"Bad Eggs" literally put me to sleep last time I watched it, I dunno why it just doesn't capture my interest.
I think a lot of people overlook "Restless" for some reason. I love it for the following reasons: 1.Cheese Man 2.ALL of Giles' dream 3.Spike + Giles in Xander's dream

I really like "I Only Have Eyes For You". Has some really good scenes and is simply a very good Buffy-Episode. Other underrated Buffy episodes are to me: 1. Lie To Me Probably one of the 10 best episodes I can think of.
2. Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered Just hilariously funny!
3. Dead Things This episode just gives us a very good insight on Buffy's soul. I like it!

an arc that i find underrated is the Jasmine arc in Angel season 4... people seemed not to like Gina Torres as a being who was essentially her own great-grandmother... a buffy episode that is really underrated is the episode Band Candy... gotta love primitive CGI!

I liked the Jasmine arc and absolutely love Gina Torres. She's such a talented singer as well, lol. I first noticed her work on Hercules/Xena. One thing about the Jasmine arc...for some reason it just seemed like it was drag out a bit too long.

Underrated episodes--always a good topic. (in chronological order) "Buffy"- "Ted" - "The Dark Age" - "The Zeppo" - "The Freshman" - "Triangle" - "Intervention" - "Life Serial" - "Normal Again" "Angel"- "Somnambulist" - "War Zone" - "Guise Will Be Guise" - "Dead End" - "Billy" - "Awakening" - "The Cautionary Tale..." - "Lineage" - "Soul Purpose" Probably left a few out, but I think that's a decent list... :smart:

I've always thought that season 5 was chock full of really good, but often overlooked episodes. Out of My Mind, No Place Like Home, I Was Made to Love You, Intervention, Tough Love, and Spiral are all great, but everyone seems to forget about them because they're all centered around the main plot and are surrounded by episodes that get tons of acclaim like Fool for Love, The Body, and The Gift.
As for other episodes that deserve more attention, I Only Have Eyes for You (as the topic says), Lie to Me, and Dead Things all immediately spring to mind. There are tons of others, too, but I'm too lazy to list them all.

I Only Have Eyes For You has always been one of my favorite episodes. I love that Buffy and Angel(us) were together again, just for a few minutes. That's what I loved about it. Plus the transferring b/t the 50s and 90s was just a nice touch.
Beer Bad, it's a funny episode, my favourite parts are when Willow totally rejects Parker and the fight scene with Buffy & Parker in the beginning. She's stunning in it. I've always loved Bring on the Night as well. There's something about Buffy getting her stuff handed to her that's entertaining. Not that I like her getting her ass kicked, but it's...interesting.
Anyways, gotta watch Dollhouse! yay!

'HIM'!!!!!! I looooove that episode. It's sooo funny. Especially when Buffy has that bazooka/rocket launcher thing and Spike is chasing after her.

Omg, yes, "Him" is a totally underrated episode. The last 15 minutes of that episode kill me every time, especially with the bazooka and Anya robbing the bank!

That scene in Him is one of my favorite ever! It's so funny watching Spike chase after Buffy. I crack up every time.
Amends was greatly underrated. I love the First's 1st appearance...and I adored having Jenny back on, even for a little bit.

i love the scene between Anya, Dawn, Willow and Buffy i think i would like Amends more if it wasn't so Angel-centric, cos i kind of hate him

I think it showed a good bit of backstory, which was nice. If I could just block out SMG's hair in that episode, then we'd be golden.
