i did 2 at first! Not to thread hijack, but dude, I love your icon/banner. Where's it from?? haha! thank you! Um, yes stakey is right. it's from "slayer, interrupted". And i also added a picture from the "Stake to the Heart" cover (it's the blured image).

I think that what people need to remember about "The Gift" and the final scene of Buffy's dead body is that it wasn't going for realism with blood and smashed up bones, but a mythic death. That's why that image is of her at peace. It was about finality, an image of emotional resonance rather than some horrific scene from a slasher pic or CSI. She jumped, hit the energy. Dissipated the energy and fell the rest of the distance. I absolutely agree with this explanation. That's how I've always viewed it. And I also agree she was dead before she hit the ground. We see her die on screen - she is obviously in pain a she is falling, and then she sort of smiles in peace as she hits the energy and her face goes slack as she dies. I do like the idea of her sort of being cradled by the energy and gently placed on the ground, though. Nice image.

Yes, I agree that the reason Buffy looked so peaceful (and whole, despite being dead) is the magicky suspension the portal did when it killed her mid air. After all, Glory was supposedly supposed to hop in there to get home, so the portal must have mega stoppage power.
