Hey all. I just watched Spin the Bottle about ten minutes ago, and I had forgotten that the episode actually takes place as a story told by Lorne at some point in the future. Upon realizing that, with the hindsight that I have now, I immediately started wondering when exactly that point in the future is. Lorne seems to be aware that everything just slides downhill from that point on, so it's at least in Season 5. But the very end of it got me wondering if it doesn't take place in After the Fall. As he leaves his "venue," we see that there's not a single soul in the place. It makes me wonder if maybe that's Lorne wandering around a hell-bound LA after failing to get out in time, not knowing what to do other than sit around in abandoned clubs and bemoan where it all went wrong. It would make sense also, given what we know of Lorne's part in First Night so far, which seems to be told in a similar style of narration (though he's moved on to poetry, now, apparently) .I'm honestly kinda hoping for that, cause I'm one of the people who doesn't want to give up on the idea of an eventual happy ending for these people, and that narration didn't exactly have a hopeful tone to it, so I at least hope it's not at the very end, and instead takes place when things still suck, before they get better. What do you guys think?

I have a feeling that Lorne's narration throughout the episode was added in more for effect than anything. Joss didn't really mention much about it in the commentary on the DVD, and I've never really thought of it much more than something that adds a little more color and pizzaz to the episode, just a little extra touch Joss did to give the episode some narration to help us follow along.

Lorne went and sang on his last day, it was shown.
I always assumed it was just some time shortly after the event itself. Why would he talk to no-one about such an event so long after?

Well, because as he sort of indicates at the end, that's the point at which everything really starts to go downhill. Think about it: Did anything ever go well for the Angel crew after that?
