My take on Buffy vs. Angel is that Buffy had better stand alone episodes while Angel had better story arcs. At season 4 of Buffy I stopped caring about the constant "end of the world" stories and the one big bad per season formula. Angel's battles are on a smaller, more personal scale which somehow makes them feel even more epic to me. The villians are more morally ambiguous and never have plans as trite as simply trying to destroy everything. Also, each season finale doesnt wrap everything up in a pretty little bow the way it does with Buffy, and the whole series hangs together much better because of that I think.

Though I prefer Buffy characters (barely), Angel does have superior story arcs. Even Season 4, despite all the messiness and train-wreck of Evil!Cordy, has its merits. In fact, I would say that the worst thing about Angel is that it had to wrap up its final stories WAY too quickly because the WB canceled.

I think Buffy is better, but Angel is still miles and miles above pretty much anything else on TV, so watch it. The question is, have you seen Firefly? It takes almost zero time to watch the whole series (I had a friend who skipped school for a day and watched the entire series, movie included, in 24 hours) and it's one of the best things that ever happened to TV. Watch them both. It's that much more Joss.

On Firefly: I've been trying to get my sister to watch it cause she likes Buffy and Angel, but she says she's turned off by the whole sci-fi space thing and she's not interested in watching it. I personally am not a sci-fi person. I've never watched Star Trek or Babylon 5 or any of those shows, the only thing i've seen is Star Wars, so I didn't think I would enjoy Firefly at all. I gave it a shot, and I was hooked from the very first episode. The sci-fi aspect is irrelevant, as it is a Joss show and is primarily driven by the characters. Make sure you give it a shot soon

I agree, give a Firefly a shot. When I first bought the series, the first couple minutes of the first episode is very sci-fi-like, and I just thought, "Why did I buy this"? But I got hooked quickly. Even though it's only 14 episodes, it's one of the greatest things that have ever been on tv.
