Technically, but in the space and time he has spent on earth, it was only been ~250 years.

Yeah, actually, that's something that always bugged me about the show. I mean, we saw that one human who got sent to that hell dimension in Anne when he got back, and despite the fact by comparing his date of birth to the present date on Earth he'd be 20 something, I doubt anyone would actually call him 20ish. He was 80ish. So I never got why everyone, including Angel himself, kept saying that he was 250 whatever years old. He lived for a hundred odd years in a hell dimension. Just cause that only spanned a few months on earth doesn't mean he didn't "age" in whatever way it is vampires can consider themselves aging. He should be 350ish.
Then again, given that vamps don't really age, I guess the whole concept of age is a fairly arbitrary thing to begin with. Maybe that's why everyone kept saying 250, cause the only real sense of age to a vampire is the difference between birthdate and current one. Kind of a flimsy explanation, but hey, that wouldn't be a first in the Buffyverse, hehe =)

Liam (Angel) was born in 1726, and was sired in 1753. So this year in 2008 he'd be 282 or 255 depending on how you look at it. Of course that's not including his time in Hellsvile... which Angel never adds on. Maybe he doesn't want to seem *too* old

He seems to count from when he was sired, claiming himself as 247 in... I think maybe "Dear Boy", around there at least.

i think the time in hell should count since vampires become stronger as they get older...considering angel is trying to reclaim his humanity tho it makes sense that he goes for the younger age description

I don't think Vamps in the Buffyverse get physically stronger as they get older. It's simply an experience thing. The longer they're around the more they have. Angel's time in hell, therefore, probably wouldn't have made him any stronger, unless you wanted to judge how good he is at pain and suffering, heh.

the time in hell should count as part of his aging...the people trapped in the hell dimension in 'Anne' aged and died from being there for so long. plus if we're saying experience is what shapes a vampire, then 100 yrs in hell is alot of character building time.

Perhaps there was no time in hell, only pain. That could explain why he's so well groomed when he comes back.

Actually they become more demonic looking as they get older- remember the Master and Kakistos. It's explicitly stated his strength, heightened resistance to staking, cloven digits and inability to morph his face back to human is due to his age. Though I'm guessing that takes thousands of years, rather then hundreds.
