Ok, I just got done watching Angel Season 1 episode "Sanctuary". I noticed Buffy was the bitch monster from hell. I know she deserved to be, but I just got one question. When Angel told Faith to run upstairs and Buffy said something like "I won't let her out of my sight!". She punches Angel twice. Then Angel stops her third punch and hits Buffy back. Buffy looks like she was offended, and is about to cry or something. It looks like she's thinking "how in the world could he do this?". I know there's the rule, boy's don't hit girls. And I know they were in a relationship, but come on! Buffy just gave Angel two slayer packed punches, Angel punches her once and now he's apoligizing. Do you know why this happened? Do you understand it cause I surely don't. This may be a stupid topic but it always bothered me, (This was the third or fourth time I watched this episode)...

I was watching this again the other day (with Five By Five) great episode. I'm totally on Angel's side when it comes to the Buffy vs Angel. She does come off a bit of bitch, especially when she starts rubbing it in talking about her new boyfriend (Riley).
I love the way Angel tells her off That's great. It's nice, you moved on. I can't. You found someone new. I'm not allowed to, remember? I see you again it cuts me up inside and the person I share that with is me! You don't know me anymore, so don't come down here with your great new life and EXPECT me to do things your way. Go home!"

I had to be on Angel' side of this battle too.

I think that this little exchange explores the dynamic of their relationship a bit more. Even though Buffy is stronger, she still expects Angel to follow the general rules of male/female relationship. It's unresonable, but Buffy reverts back to being a regular girl. I don't remember the episode, but in Season 3, right after Angel and Buffy break-up he offers to carry something heavy for her. Again, even through she is stronger, he still trys to be chivalrous.

I think she was more offended that Angel would hit her to defend Faith rather than the boys-hitting-girls thing. Having said that, I do think she acted like a total b**** and was pleased when Angel told her where to put it in the end. Looking back now, this may have been the last interesting exchange between Angel and Buffy for the rest of either series. Its all Angel-the-bitter-obsessed-ex-boyfriend from here on out.

Keep in mind that this is directly after the events of THis Year's Girl and Who Are You?, so considering how badly Faith effed up buffy's life in those episodes, i'm sure it's greatly fuelling Buffy's anger and bias towards the issue of Faith. Plus, I'm sure she's still sore from the events in Enemies when she was shaken by the possibility of Angel desiring Faith over her. When she walks in on them holding each other, I can't imagine how bad that must have sucked. But all things considered, I'm definitely on Angel's side of this fight, but I can understand Buffy's side to a degree as well. Only thing I hated was that Angel pu$$ied out after he rightfully told her off and dragged his ass to Sunnydale to apologize... Oh well, at least it gave us the Yoko Factor.

artiswar brings up a good point. In the context of both shows Buffy seems less out of character, but viewed from just Angel's episodes she looks a total bitch. I also think without context Angel seems like a mighty ass in the "previously" bit from the Yoko Factor; i.e. the dialogue Ethros posted.

The one thing that bothers me most about that episode isn't anything to do with Buffy, but rather Faith's line about Buffy, describing her as the only person "who went out of their way to be my friend." Buffy went out of her way to be Faith's friend? Really? I must've missed that, 'cause to me, it looked like just the opposite...

Buffy constantly tried to be there for Faith. There are many scenes in Season 3 where Buffy goes to Faith to tell that she's not alone, etc. Even after Faith committed murder, Buffy was still on her side, even taking a part of the blame even though she could have easily dumped all on her since it was 100% Faith's action.

Okay, granted, she tried on Faith's world in "Bad Girls" and spent a day or two as her best friend. And she made a nice attempt at the end of "Revelations" to try to undo the damage Mrs. Post had done. She did invite her over to the house for dinner... once... because Willow urged her to. And she also invited her over for Christmas Eve... because Joyce urged her to. And anytime there was a big scary monster to fight, Faith was the first one she called.
And of course, she was very nice and sympathetic as she was trying to talk Faith into turning herself in for murder. Gotta give her points for that, I suppose...

Yeah, that's exactly what i was talking about I just couldn't remember the exact episode names off the top of my head lol. But yeah, even though Buffy didn;t like Faith that much from the getgo, she didn't give up on her until the final straw. So when Faith was talking about how Buffy was her only friend in Sanctuary, she's probably just refering to the fact that she wasn't as quick to give up on her as the other people in her life.

Yeah after their blow out over Faith (which was entirely understandable, imo, because they each felt really strongly one way or another, it was inevitable that they were going to have issues over it), they didn't see each other for nearly a year. They had a lot of time to cool off and get used to life without each other, so that the next time they saw each other (when Joyce died), they were just able to be there for one another without their past melodrama resurfacing.

i just watched the episode where angel and buffy just sit together and its so beautiful the way he just pops up and holds her hand when theres no one there and i understand in a way why buffy was upset with angel she had just put up with alot from faith (she stole her body) so then she goes out of her way to get her back and help angel (also remember shes always worried about them to) and she walks in on what looks like an intimate momment.... so shes not happy then she goes to get faith and angel wont let her so she hits him and then he hits her back....so has angel ever really hit buffy exept for when he was bad... i think she was a bit in shock like thats never happened before....so I'm saying take in her feelings in.. she had her body stolen and had to put up with being faith she almost got sent to england and faith slept with Riley then she goes to get that ***** back and angel protects her!...

Did they ever give a reason for Angel leaving his show in that episode where he goes to Sunnydale after Buffy's mom died or did that just happen offscreen?
