What are the old ones exactley, I know they were pure demons who ruled the earth before humans. But when exactley was this, before or after the dinosours? or round the time of neanderthal? Im really confused about the old ones story so if someone could please elaborate I'd be most greatful.

I'm guessingthat the old ones ruled the earth before dinasaurs existed. As a atterof fact, I dont remember ever hearing any references to dinasuars in Buffy before.
