Cordy and Wes in 'Fredless'

I know this scene from 'Fredless' is one of the most hilarious ones from Angel:

Cordy steps away from the reception counter and pretends to be Buffy.

Cordy: "Oh - Angel! I know that I'm a Slayer and you a vampire - and it would be *impossible* for us to *be* together - *but!*"

Gunn laughs at Cordy's act.

Wes stands up: "But!"

Cordy turns to look at him. Wes pulls his glasses off and lays them to the side.

Wes: "My gypsy curse sometimes prevent me from seeing the truth. Oh, Buffy!"

Cordy: "Yes, Angel?"

Wes: "Oh, I love you so much I almost forgot to *brood!*"

Fred watches wide-eyed. Gunn is laughing.

Cordy: "And just because I sent you to hell that one time doesn't mean that we can't just be friends."

Wes grabs a hold of Cordy's wrist.

Cordy: "Oh!"
Wes: "Or possibly more."
Cordy gasps: "Gasp! No! We mustn't."

Wes pulls Cordy close.

Wes: "Kiss me."
Cordy: "Bite me!"

Wes bends Cordy back over his arm and pretends to sink his fangs into her neck.

Angel off screen: "How about you both bite me."

But the first time I saw it, I was really pissed off at Wes and Cordy. I was still in the 'oh my god buffy had to crawl out of her grave!' phase, plus Angel meeting up with her now that she was back was a very intense off-screen moment. And to have them making fun of their relationship right after Buffy was back from the dead - well it felt too soon after Buffy's resurrection, inconsiderate of Angel's feelings and in really bad taste.

It's a really funny scene, but...did anyone else react this way?

Ok, it might of been. But I was laughing to much to notice. I still think that's the best Wesley/Cordelia scene.

i always thought that when it came to buffy, Cordelia was always an inconsiderate bitch, whining about how selfish Buffy is. So i thought it was a bit bitchy of the two of them, but still very funny.

I have to agree on this...this must be one of the funniest parts of Angel...

I think it was in the same episode where another hilarious bit was in...in goes something like...

Cordelia (Mimicing Fred): "Your My Big Fat Hero"
Angel: "You Think I'm Fat?"

LOL. Now that I think of it, I doubt Cordy even cared when Buffy died and came back. I jsut love that bitch!

I never really had much issue with it. I'd imagine a few days to a week had passed since they all found out dear old Buffy was back from the grave, so I didn't really see any problems with that scene. If they had done that when Buffy was still dead, then sure, that would be rather tasteless.

But the scene was meant to be funny, so I just leave it at that.

I wouldn't ever say Cordellia never CARED about Buffy she has just always been abit jealous of her so she may have cam across that way. Erm I doubt Cordealli, Wesly and the rest if team angel knew how intense and emotionally weird and scary it would gave been for Buffy and alot of the scoobies as Angel never talked about it to them.

Also they weren't exactly saying "Ha Ha Buffy died" they were just making fun of Angel and Buffy's estranged relationship. Also imagine if somebody acted out a scene for Cordellia and Angel's realtionship, say Wes as Angel and Fred as Cordellia

Fred as Cordy: Oh Angel I know I slept with your son and was taken over with a powerful demon and tried to take your soul and kill you that doesn't mean we can't still be together

Wes as Angel: But I....I don't know how I feel about you for us to be together

Fred: We have loving feelings for eachother

Wes: But is that enough?

Fred: I think so

Wes: Oh Cordy I love you so much...

Fred: Even more than you loved Darla?

Wes: Yes

Fred: And Buffy

Wes: Especially Buffy

They both laugh and pretend to kiss!

No doubt the scene is hilarious. But I think it illustrates how sometimes Cordy and Wes can be too cavalier about mocking Angel's brooding tendencies.

From their perspective, Angel has been mourning Buffy all summer and is just finding his way back to a normal life only to be dragged into this intense emotional clinch.

Its humor, its funny, its extreme, but it deals with something very emotional in a insensitive way. Its a bit jarring going from Cordy comforting Angel for losing the love of his life in 'Heartthrob' to actively mocking their relationship just after Buffy's been brought back from the dead.

The scene manages to be more funny than offensive, but that's from the great writing and Charisma's and Alexis' performances.

As a stripped bare scenario it doesn't sound funny to me:
Angel returns from meeting Buffy after her resurrection to find his 'closest friends/more like family' mocking and trivializing his relationship with Buffy.
