Darla's Ghost

In S4 of Angel, what do you guys think about Darla appearing to Connor? It's left very vague, but I was thinking about it and it occurred to me that Darla could be The First. I mean, The First would NOT want Jasmine to come to be and create a utopia on Earth, so it tried to talk Connor into letting the virgin go to stall the birth, and buy time for Angel to come and kill Cordy.

On a side note, I think it's interesting that Cordelia accepted becoming demon (and consequently less human) for the sake of mankind, while Buffy adamently opposed it in Get It Done. Interesting.

I think the greatest difference here was that Cordelia was offered a choice and she in fact demanded another way be found so she could safely keep the visions, where as Buffy was chained and they equated her being imbued with more demon essence as rape. And I see Buffy as already being part demon as a slayer - maybe not enough to register for Spike's chip, but the Initiative had a limited view of demons. She didn't need more forced on her against her will to fight, even though the vision of the ubervamp army made her question her decision.

I think the Powers That Be sent that vision of her to try and prevent Connor form killing that girl.

Yeah, me too. I remember when S4 was originally airing that there were people who thought that Lilah in the basement scene in "Salvage" was the First. I think the writers on both shows, tho, tried to avoid those types of crossovers, because it potentially could get very confusing to those who only watched one show but not the other (hence why you don't see anyone in Sunnydale falling under Jasmine's spell, even tho she's supposed to have overtaken all of California).

But there's nothing that specifically says Darla's not the First, so you could certainly choose to believe that she is if you like...

I think the writers did handle how the Scoobies weren't effected by Jasmine with there being no power in Sunnydale during Touched. I think Steven S. DeKnight says in the commentary for Inside Out that Darla is sent by the Powers. I hate the Lilah theory in Salvage because it just makes no sense for it to be The First, plus how Lilah says she isn't even there, just in Wesley's mind.

I'm all up for Darla being the first except for one thing why would the first try to help why would it tell Connor not to kill the girl that just makes no sense i always believed she was sent by the ptb to help Connor and stop him from making a big mistake

Hmm...interesting theories artiswar, I've never thought about it that way. You could be right. But I always thought it was Darla sent by the PTB to help Connor.

I believe it's the PTB, but I see why the First would do it. Jasmine wants to rule the world. The First wants to destroy it. The First wouldn't want Jasmine to take over the world and get an army she could command with her mind.
