Well, how could you not love Fred? It is impossible. Knox pretty much sums her up for me: Knox:"She had a warmth that took you in and held you until everything cold and distant melted away. She was the most beautiful, perfect woman I ever met." Nothing else to say. I really miss her.

I love Fred, and I would like personally to kill Knox I think we all would!!! Evil, evil Knox!!! But sadly he is already dead...although should have been painfully tortured (angelus style) for several weeks before he finally kicked the bucket!

When you think about it, the last season of Angel was a bloodbath. Cordelia, Fred, Wesley, Lindsey (although I was happy about this one) and Gunn essentially dies, or is just about to. I also noticed when I was at work how absolutely tragic all of their lives are, they all pretty much got the crap end of the stick the large majority of their lives.

I wasn't really that much of a fan of Fred and watching her die was painful (no, I don't mean emotionally, I mean like 'hurry up!'). Illyria, imo, was a hell of a lot more interesting character and a lot more fun. What also annoyed me about Fred's death was how everyone was like 'oh, Fred! You're gone! How will we ever live without you! *sob*', but no mention was ever made of Cordelia following her passing. It was like 'Cordelia Chase? No, we don't know her at all. Never heard of her'. That really sh!ts me

That really sh!ts me They way I see it is: 1.) They knew that she didn't just die, but that she also ascended to a higher destiny eg: Wesley knew this in Angel: After the fall #9 and he said that it hurt to much for Angel to say her name.... plus really bad writing.

^^ Yeah, Cordy was (is? I'm actually kinda confused where her soul is supposed to be now) in a better place, while Fred's soul pretty much doesn't exist now.

I like Fred but she'd become a bit of a Mary Sue by season five. Pretty much every character adored her and she was basically flawless. Giving her a cruel death and replacing her with a more interesting, f***ed up character was a good decision.

^^Really? That's how I felt about Season 3 Cordy, which is why I was over her by the time she died.

^^Really? I just saw that as growth and character development because of all the pain of the visions (eg: ''That Vision Thing'') I think it was a positive move for her.

^^Yeah...I didn't like the development in that season. I thought she became too perfect. It made her boring, and I didn't find her being that way believable. And, like Paul said about Fred, everyone adored her and thought she was flawless. Before that, she was one of my favorite characters in the 'verse. After Angel Season 3 , she became my least fav (but I liked her personality when she returned for "You're Welcome" and Season 4 I can't really comment on because she was possessed the whole time).

Season three wasn't Cordy's finest year (she became a bit bland and watery), but I don't think she was as much of a Mary Sue as Fred later became. With Fred, it felt like every male character in the show was in love with her (Wes, Gunn, Angel, Spike, Knox), which became a little annoying. Cordy was a popular and respected member of the group, but she wasn't quite as adored by everyone as Fred was.
Fred never seemed to have very deep characterisation, she just coasted along on Amy Ackers' great acting and likability.

I much preferred Fred in the beginning where she was slightly insane.

Ill keep it short because I dont want to be too much of a buzzkill in Fred's RIP thread, but I was pretty much done after "Fredless," when all her issues were swept under the carpet and everyone fell in love her (even Cordy. wtf?).

Hmm. Yeah, it does seem like Fred had every guy falling for her. And why wouldn't she?! As for the characterization: I think Fred had some pretty solid character traits. Like her ability to survive. I think Shiny Happy People and The Magic Bullet are two of the best S4 episodes, easily.

I think Shiny Happy People and The Magic Bullet are two of the best S4 episodes, easily. Fred's ability to survive was probably her defining character trait. It was very prominent during her best storylines (the Pylea and Jasmine arcs) and came to poignant conclusion in "A Hole in the World", when she did finally die (" I have to work this. I lived in a cave for five years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not gonna be cut down by some monster flu, I am better than that!"). I agree that "Shiny Happy People" and "The Magic Bullet" are brilliant episodes, and definitely Fred's best appearances.

I remember watching when Fred died when it originally aired and I remember hating it. I thought no way their going to kill Fred. Even though I hated it I can't deny how brilliant of a character Illyria turned out to be. I loved hating and liking her. Thank goodness for ATF so we were able to get more of her.

I liked her, but she could be boring at times. Much better than the crapfest that was Illyria, though.
