Sorry hun, he's back. And she didn't love him as much as he did her, I think. I found it hard to read both of their feelings.

About what's canon or not(official) I see it like this;

First grade canon, non-negotiable
Buffy season 1-7
Angel season 1-5

Second grade canon, that could be ignored but shouldn't
Buffy Season 8(because Joss said it's canon)
Angel After the fall(because Joss said so)
Fray(because Fray is in Season 8)
Tales of the vampire & slayer(because two stories in it is sort of background stories for season 8)

Third grade canon *shrug*
Spike after the fall(because the writer of Angel after the fall wrote it and the storyline is written to fit into Angel after the fall)
Spike Asylum & Spike shadow puppets (because characters used in these books were written into Angel after the fall)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but that's the idea. No novels are official, Joss doesn't have to think about contradicting them.

Ahhh not another canon debate. "Dark Willow blah blah blah" is not canon. It might as well be a fan fic as it does not count in the official verse. Now in the Bufy season eight written by Joss (canon) Whedon Riley is back and ~SPOILERS~ working for Twilight, so he 'appears' to be a bad guy but we don't know for sure yet.

There is a trilogy book series that asks the question "What if Dark Willow was never stopped?" Starts at the end of Villains when Willow kills Warren. Majorly stupid.

I thought the Riley death was pretty stupid. I got a laugh out of the fact that the helicopter he and Sam left Sunnydale on crashed. And then Buffy having fun with the dead Riley-rock thing made me scratch my head a lot. There were some great character moments, especially from Anya and Giles, but overall I thought the books were laughable.

even if riley is dead, i dont think it really matters, its buffy anything could happen. people come bk from the dead, its what they do.

sometimes i think buffy lovedr iley as much as he loved her.

I don't think Buffy loved Riley as much Riley loved Buffy. I do think that being with Riley was good for Buffy she got to experience what it was like to have a relationship with a semi-normal guy(which is probably as normal as she'll get).

Riley was a good guy but as Joss comments, he's Gary Cooper and Gary Cooper doesn't fit in the Buffyverse. I recently watched We Were Soldiers and the character Marc Blucas plays is VERY Riley like.
Put Riley in Dawson's Creek etc and he'd be a pin up boy but he's just not dark enough for Buffy, he's David Copperfield when we want Heathcliff

Buffy and Riley's relationship was defiantly not meant to last. Riley was very insecure about their relationship after he meet Angel and he was even worse after Dracula. Buffy always had to reassure him that she was not transferable.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot Buffy never did say that she loved him. Buffy's only said that to Angel and Spike.

I saw zoelee and sky give their views on Buffy loving Riley as much as Riley loved her, any advances of reasons or quotes to suggest that she did, in my mind she didn't love him as much and she was scared of being alone and the sudden realisation of what she might lose in into the woods bought it up for her, maybe she would have loved him as much in time.

This is basically how I feel. She did love him--but not as much as he loved her. He couldn't handle that and he felt that she was wasting her time with him. He knew that he wasn't "dark" enough for her. She was always more in love with the IDEA of Riley (a normal, human man) than in him as a person. In "Into the Woods," she chases after him not because she realizes how much she loves him, but because she realizes how much she's depending on him to cope with Joycelessness and Dawnsponsibilities.

Also, those books weren't THAT bad. I thought they were a step up from a lot of the other Buffy novels I've read.
