This show is really starting to drop in quality. It just doesn't feel like a Joss Whedon show, it feels more like a typical sci-fi story. Where's the Whedon sparkle? Echo gets slapped in the face every episode and they have yet to show her in a big fight scene. She's always being put in a postion where she feels victamized. Where's the strength? I think they should have just done a Faith spinoff, they already have access to Faith and Illryia, why not?

I would have loved to see the Faith spinoff, but if it came down to choosing, I'd pick Dollhouse. We have 12 amazing seasons of the Buffyverse and now the comics. I'd love to see something else original come from Joss, a brand new mythology for us to fall in love with. We're only four episodes in, and if FOX is nice and they let the show continue for a few years, Dollhouse can become something special like the Buffyverse. Comparing the quality of the first four episodes of Buffy to where the show ended up... it's almost impossible.

If I had to compare the first four episodes of each series, I'm not sure Buffy would win. Ghost vs. Welcome to the Hellmouth = Buffy FTW The Target vs. The Harvest = Tie Stage Fright vs. The Witch = Dollhouse FTW, never a big fan of The Witch Gray Hour vs. Teacher's Pet = Dollhouse PWNS Buffy here So look at where Buffy began and compare it to Dollhouse. Now consider the fact that Dollhouse has been suffering from massive interference from the suits and think about how amazing it's supposed to get by episode 6.

The Faith spin-off should have happened years ago. Bloody Eliza Dushku and her Tru Calling. I guess I'm biased because I'm not one to follow Joss wherever he goes. I'm not a Firefly fan, and I'm not that interested in Dollhouse either. So a "new Joss show" doesn't mean much to me. It's the Buffyverse I care about (with Joss' involvement, of course). I guess I wish Dollhouse well and everything, but I can't help but be a little bitter that there's a Joss/Eliza show out there that isn't about Faith.

Dushku declined on the Faith spinoff so she wouldn't have to 'fill Buffy's boots'. Honestly, I'd rather have Dollhouse. I was watching Buffy the other day, and Faith was in it, and it was amazing. Faith was amazing...but she had her time. She still has her time...the next BtVS: Season 8 issue comes out in a few weeks and is centralized on Faith and Giles. I think it's time Echo has her time to shine... Which brings me to an entirely different rant...those comparing Echo's personas to Faith really don't have much evidence. All of these personalities are, and have been, kickass. And Faith just happened to be kickass. If this comparison continues, then of course people will continue their narrow-minded journey through the Dollhouse!!

it's funny, i had this conversation with my friend yesterday... and i found it interesting that Eliza's one of the only actors who hasn't tried to completely distance him/herself from Joss and the buffyverse... so we talked about the most likely cantidates for a spin off... we came up with Faith, Illyria, Spike, and Dawn...
Faith because Eliza seems to be the closest to Joss at this point in time.
Illyria because i vaguely remember a plan JOss had come up with for an Illyria origins story.
Spike because... Spike: Shadow Puppets, Spike: After the Fall, Spike: Asylum... see a pattern?
Dawn simply because Michelle Trachtenberg has stated that she loved buffy before coming onto the show...
i just realized that i ranted and didn't answer the question... i cannot choose... i love Dollhouse, but i also love Faith... at this point in time, i choose Dollhouse because it's been too many years since buffy ended for a spin-off to emerge now.

The idea of Joss creating a fresh new show is great, but this show doesn't seem to have that cool factor that the other Whedon shows had (including Firefly). Eliza is always being vulnerable in her role as Echo, but wouldn't most of her fans say they like it when she plays a badass character?

I like Dollhouse better than a Faith spin-off. I'm not interested in watching a series surrounding Faith, I love her character, but not that much.

My vote is for Dollhouse. As much as I love Faith, I don't think a spin-off would have been a good idea. One of the best things for me about Faith was having her come back from time to time. It was always a nice treat.
I love seeing Eliza play different characters in each episode of Dollhouse. She finally gets to show her range as an actress. She's much better than she gets credit for. We do get to see little glimpses of Faith in some of Echo's personalities, which is amazing. Let's face it Eliza looks great beating the crap out of people.
I loved Tru Calling (hilarious), but she comes off as a terrible actress. The writers for Tru had no idea how to write human beings. The way the character's talked was so dumb, but funny as hell. It always made me laugh watching Tru interact with other characters.
I'm glad Joss is doing a new show with a few familiar faces. I love the story. The show has a lot of potential. Can't wait to see how this season ends. We're only 4 episodes in, and we've already gotten some amazing stuff so far.

I have to admit, I was always completely on board and extremely excited for a Faith series. She's one of the Verse's strongest characters, in my honest opinion, and I still go through ideas and storylines in my head every day. Heck, it could've outdone Angel and Buffy for me personally.
I'm quite invested in the Dollhouse at the moment however. I'm loving where the story seems to be going and the prospects of where it could/should go. I completely trust Whedon and I think if given the chance, this could have a hell of a run. So, I'm going to have to side with Dollhouse over the Faith spinoff. Not to mention I love the comic medium and what it's done specifically to the character(s) so I am also hoping to see more Faith and Giles for Season Eight and Nine. A comic spinoff written by Brian K. would be amazing.

I can honestly say Dollhouse.
You have to look at it from Joss' perspective. Buffy was a great show that lots of people loved and praised. It was so great it got an Angel spinoff and now currently lives on through comics. It's easy to say that Joss has had great success with the Buffyverse, but he is an auteur and like most auteurs he probably wants to challenge what he can do. Doing a Faith spinoff would have limited Joss. He'd be covering old ground. With Dollhouse Joss gets to start fresh and take on a new concept. Personally I think you need to let Dollhouse grow. I have faith that Joss knows what he is doing and that he will make this show as memorable has everything else he has worked on.

Me, personally?
I would say Faith: The Series. I do enjoy Dollhouse, honestly. I love the newness of the ideas and how almost everything changes every week. But my first and true love will always be with Buffy, and I'm not getting everything I want from Dollhouse. I think that Eliza totally could carry a series on her own, especially as badass Faith. I'd love to see her thought process, new missions, new demons and vampires. I think that as the polar opposite of Buffy she'd be very interesting and new to TV. If I could only dream....
Dragonweaver, you make another excellent point about Joss needing to grow as an artist. He always says that he wants to challenge himself, so let's hope that it works out this time!

I'm not sure. I haven't seen a entire ep of Dollhouse, but from what I've heard, Dollhouse will be interesting. Of course, the Buffyverse's mythology is awesome, and although I dislike Faith, I have to admit that she's pretty cool. And a show about a slayer sounds cooler than a show about actives. But after reading this about Dollhouse for ep 6(I think) Echo gets her memory back and tries to fight Dollhouse I'm now slightly more excited by Dollhouse than a Faith spin-off.

If you would have asked me before Stage Fright I would have said that a Faith Spin off would have been amazing... and that Dollhouse was not that cool... but that episode and the ones after it were pretty awesome so I have to choose Dollhouse. Even though i would give anything to see the actors play the roles again... a movie perhaps?!

I say Dollhouse. I'd love to see Faith happen, but I agree with Ethan. We've had 12 seasons of the Buffyverse, and it's time for something new, which just so happens to the Dollhouse.
