Ok the wife and I just finished season 3 (her first run) and what I'd hoped would happen has. She's become interested enough in Angel and Cordelia that she wants to watch Angel now as well. (Unfortunately glancing at the DVD covers at the store has already let her know that Cordelia will be there) Anyway here's my question. Am I safe to start Buffy S4E1 then Angel S1E1 back to Buffy S4E2 and so and and so forth to catch all the crossovers in order? I watched them myself in order of air dates but I don't remember if there was a week where Buffy was off and then 2 Angels before we saw the next one. I'm sure somebody knows the answer. Speaking of DVD covers, and the screens in the DVD before you hit watch episode, I wish they were a little less spoilerish. Episodes that Spike are going to show up aren't surprises anymore. Plus it lead to this quick thinking lie I had to tell. Her: (Seeing a season 6 copy of the DVD at the store) What happened to Willow? Why is she all veiny and dark headed. Me: Hmm? Oh, I'm not quite sure. That must be from a dream or something, I don't remember her looking like that. I mean sure I'm getting smacked later for that one but at least it might still come as a surprise for her. Anyway any help on the order is much appreciated.

I know what you're going through. I did the same thing with my boyfriend.
It's tricky with the crossovers, but I usually tried to stay even. For example I showed one disc (3 or 4 episodes) of Buffy and then one disc of Angel and tried not to get too far ahead with either show. That way when I knew a crossover was coming I could make adjustments to the order easily enough. To make things simple for the first crossover, show the first 2 episodes of Angel, then the first 3 of Buffy, and then go back to Angel and finish of the disc.
Of course that is just how I did it. Perhaps your wife will enjoy them more if you go in order of how they originally aired. I did it differently because it's a pain changing out the discs all the time, especially when the person your with wants to do a marathon of episodes.
Oh the lying thing...I'm with you. It's so hard to keep things secret. The images on the DVD are bad enough but you also have magazines, posters & the world wide web. I remember my boyfriend was spoiled about Buffy/Spike by an article in TV guide.

if i were you, i would watch BS4E1, then AS1E1 and so on... it makes the storylines much easier to follow especially faith in season 7/Angel season 4...

Here's the guide I did about a year ago for this: www.slayalive.com/index.cgi?board=btvs&action=display&thread=6127The short version goes like this: BtVS S4/AtS S1: Alternate evenly between the two shows. Watch the first ep of "Buffy", then the first "Angel". The second "Buffy, the second "Angel", etc. (always watching the BtVS ep first!). BtVS S5/AtS S2: Same as above. BtVS S6/AtS S3: No real crossovers of any consequence this year. Watch "Carpe Noctem" (AtS 3.04) before "Flooded" (BtVS 6.04). BtVS S7/AtS S4: The most annoying seasons to match up. Watch "Lies My Parents Told Me" (BtVS 7.17) before "Orpheus" (AtS 4.15), "Orpheus" before "Dirty Girls" (BtVS 7.18), and "Home" (AtS 4.22) before "End of Days" (BtVS 7.21). Hope that helps.

I understand your frustration at the menu screens!
In UK they COMPLETELY screwed up the airing of angel so unlike buffy, when I was watching the dvds I was watching it for the first time. So everytime i came to a new episode Id close my eyes so the menu screen wouldnt ruin anything for me.
another annoyance is the 'previously on buffy' thing...that can give away what characters are gonna make an appearance, wish the buffy/angel dvds were like supernatural and you could turn off the recaps on the menu.
Luckily the region 2 dvd covers only have smg on the front and give away bugger all about the season, when I saw the reg 2 cover for season 6 I just couldnt figure out how completely f**king dumb they were for putting evil willow on the front. morons.

That's funny! The region 1 DVDs don't have the recaps on them! That would be really spoilery!! That's too bad!

Here's the complete time line in the correct sequence. I made it one day: Buffy will be in italics.... Looks pretty accurate to me. Even with the italics, tho, it's difficult to read a huge chunk of text like that, which is why I formatted mine the way I did (2 columns, blue and red text), and also provided a summary after each season with just the most relevant parts (the crossovers). The only mistake I noticed had nothing to do with the order, but with the airdates: "Lies My Parents Told Me" aired on March 25 of '03, not the 19th. The only reason I noticed that is because most people who put these sorts of lists together make the mistake of just using the airdates, and in this case UPN pushed "Lies..." back a couple of weeks and ended up airing it after the WB aired "Orpheus". That's funny! The region 1 DVDs don't have the recaps on them! That would be really spoilery!! That's too bad! I wish they at least had them as a menu option that you could watch if you wanted too, tho (like the "Deadwood" DVDs do). Especially since whoever was responsible for cutting them out went a little too far on "End of Days" and actually ended up cutting off the beginning of the episode! Maybe when the BluRays come out...

Yeah, I went with the IMDB air dates. It worked out, though. Yeah, on my computer I have Buffy in red and Angel in blue. I was going to bold Buffy...but I thought either way it'd be hard to read. People can save it to their computer and format it however they like.

If you're watching the special features, be very careful. There's some kind of panel discussion on the third disc of season 6 where they discuss the death of Tara extensively - half a season before it happens. If you're into special features I'd suggest saving everything but episode commentaries until you've finished the season.

I think episode commentaries could be spoilery too. I can't recall any spoilers, but you never know.

I wouldn't watch commentaries until i've seen the whole series through - you'll miss the actual content of the episodes for one thing. But a specific example of spoiler: in the commentary for Consequences (S3_15) Michael Gershwin describes in detail the filming of the subway fight between Spike and Robin's mother in Fool for Love (S5_7).

good points, she doesn't care much for the special features so i watch them on my own so no worries there, and i'm not really big on commentaries, i tend to get distracted with the show or the commentary and i miss out on both

*is too lazy to read the whole thread* i just wanted to comment on the spoilery menus and stuff. I remember seeing Willow on season 6, but i honestly didn't recognize her. i was just like "sweet. a new big bad. looks cool." lol. and i had a friend who was watching everything, and since i'm a big geek and know what;s on every menu, i would always stand i n front of the TV so she couldn't see anything until i started the episode
