I saw Southland Tales last night. I have very mixed reviews.
It's a very strange movie that doesn't make very much sense to me. The cast is huge and the story just keeps dragging and dragging. It did make me laugh a lot and the special effects are very cool. I loved the score.
Sarah's role as a porn star wasn't what I expected. I wish they focused more on her character. It was hilarious to see/hear Sarah say some of the things she said!
I want people to see it to support Sarah Michelle Gellar but I could never sit through it again...

I am going to see it tonight. I am really suprised at all the positive reviews I have been hearing. Everyone seems to agree that it is one big mess but alot of critics I have read are praising it for being something diffrent and say that it beeing a big mess is what makes it so great! The New York Times gave it an amazing review! They are who I usually look to because I usually agree with 99.99% of their reviews.
I will report back after seeing it!

Wow. I jsut got back and I am pretty much at a loss for words.
I definately liked it, if not just because it was something so diffrent from the usual cinema dreck. But the more I think about it, the more I really loved it (and think it is a sequel to Donny Darko...but that is a whole nother discussion in and of itself)!
Aside from the SHITTIOUS performance by The Rock and Bi Ling, I really don't see what not to like about the movie....if this is your genra....

I really think i have a decent undersanding of this movie. I did not find it to be confusing at all...that is unless I am so confused that I don't even know it So, I would be more than happy to try and answer any questions that anyone may have about the movie. Also, I have a pretty genious theory that this is a direct sequel to Donny Darko Ok, maybe not genious... But I would love to discuss it if anyone is intrested.

What a movie! It was just so wierd and cool and dark and funny. I absolutely loved Sarah as Krysta, she was hilarious! The last half hour of the film was genious, I couldn't look away.
There is one thing I don't really get, so maybe you can help me out BuffyFanOne. Were they celebrating the end of the world?

Yeah, because of the whole "have a nice apocalypse" thing. Or was it because of the two Sean Willam Scott's holding hands?

I took it to mean that it was the end of the world as they knew it because the new liquid Karma invention was going to harnas the powere of the oceans waves for the first time the night of the zephlin ride and the world would be forever changed.....
I might have been reading into it to much though.

Also, it appeard that Baron Von Westfall (sp?) was the master mind behind EVERYTHING so he would have known what was about to happen seeing as he was orchistrating everything. Maybe he was the one who said "have anice apocalypse" thing seeing as it was his blimp.... Well, technically, he made the blimp fo rthe USIdent Corp. but what I am saying is that it was his creation.

Alright. Thanks! It makes a lot more sense now. The whole ending confused me, until now, but it was so beautifully done.

Glad I could help.
The one thing i am a bit shady on still is the whole "I'm a pimp. Pimps don't comis suicide" line. It is clearly important seeing as it was used a few times during the movie...In fact, I think it might be the last words spoken in the entire film.
