I know people hate hearing "the new Buffy" but this show looks pretty much like Buffy with a gun. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf8l_lpOHb4Inspired by or a rip off of? You decide. I think it looks like like an ok show. Lifetime has a habit of canceling shows that don't perform well in the first season so I won't get too attached if it is good but I will give it a try.

I'm actually interested. Funny enough, there's a Buffy episode called Blood Ties. I love how the vampire poof into dust when he turns into a bat. I hope there are dustings in this show.
I have a real dusting fetish when it comes to vampire shows/films. When they're not there I feel like I just got ripped off.
Also... this woman IS a vampire... not a Slayer. Annnnd the first book was published in May 1997. Though the movie Buffy had been out, and the first season had aired, I'm doubting she got any inspiration from Buffy (even though on her blog she says she LOVES Buffy/Firefly/anything Joss).

This looks quite good. But I think there is some inspiration here from Buffy/Angel. No matter what anybody says. 'Books' may have been out ages ago, but the TV Show is just starting now - and after 12 Seasons of the Buffy/Angel Verse - there's no way some of this is not taken from there. But I'll give it a try I guess. But i doubt this would be happening if Buffy/Angel never did.

So, I'm so confused. She's a vampire who investigates vampires?
Does anyone have more details? Is she half human and half vampire, or something else that lets her go out in the day? It sounds like she's living a double life, or something like that.

I downloaded the first episode for free from iTunes. I just watched it and to my surprise, I actually really liked it! It's better than The Dresden Files, which I've watched a few times and couldn't really get into. I don't think she's a vampire...at least not yet...but the guy is, he's very much like Angel, dark handsome, a vampire who fights against evil...yup. So, there's definitely Buffy/Angel inspiration, but I don't think it's really a rip off or the "new Buffy" but a show of similar subject matter.

It looks more like an Anita Blake rip-off rather than a Buffy rip-off. I, of course, will watch it.

I liked it a lot. There were some kinks but for a pilot they did a great job! I'll be watching this week too. Ooh, voodoo. Heh'. :-D

I really enjoyed the first two episodes but the voodoo episode looks kinda boring to me. I will defiantely be tuning in though! Also, I agree about it beeing exceptionally good for a pilot. The fight scenes were especially cool for any tv show, let alone a pilot for a vampire/action shoW on Lifetime!!

I watched Blood Ties this week. I couldn't get into it. The vampire guy looks like a young David Cassidy to me. They try to make him be intense with his enhanced voice, but they don't change the go close up or get an intense angle on him, so it just comes across as kind of dorky, IMO.
I liked the lead pretty well. And her cop friend is cute. He was Sabrina's later boyfriend on the last year of so of Sabrina (After they dropped the "Teenage Witch" part of the title.)
The production values also kind of bugged me. It looks pretty cheaply made, like one of those new short-term dramas on the former UPN network that's now known as "My Network", or whatever.
Anyway, I might give it one more try. Overall, I think they need better dialogue and better direciton.

This week's ep was actually sub par to the pilot "Blood Price Pts. 1 &2". There were several things with the dialog that annoyed me that were much better in the first two eps. I'll continue to watch because regardless of its flaws, I like the show. Hopefully some of these issues will get resolved. Next week...ghosts! Cool.

I definitely do not think this is a BtVS ripoff since Ms Huff wrote Blood Ties, her first book featuring the characters of Vicki Nelson and Henry FitzRoy in 1991, one year befor Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie came out. I like the series a bunch, and agreeing it's better than Dresden Files. And I don't think the series or character of Vicki Nelson has any similarities to Anita Blake.
According to Tanya Huff's biography in The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead[/i] by J. Gordon Melton, Tanya was one of the founders of Bakka, a Toronto SF bookstore. FYI, she's written other SF and fantasy books besides those featuring Henry and Vicki.

It was okay, but to compare it to Buffy to me is pointless. Nothing can ever compare to OUR slayer in terms of depth and character.
It's just an okay show, and I don't think it will last that long.

I loved this show. I like it almost as much as I love Supernatural, and that's saying a lot. The vampire character, Henry Fitzroy, is very interesting. I love that he is the son of King Henry VIII, and it doesn't hurt that he's very pretty.

I think it is. The characters of Henry (the vampire) and Vicky (the PI) are very interesting and the stories are very watchable. Its not multilayered like Buffy or Angel, but it is still a very entertaining show.
