I'm not gonna shout, but its a case of people steortyping gay guys into a girly category I hate it when people do that. Just because were gay doesnt mean we love girly stuff. I do think gay people tend to like girly stuff more than other guys. I don't know, it seems like a given to me. And that statement shouldn't be controversial. It's ok to like girly stuff too. Personally I know that I watch a lot of girly tv shows (DH, The Bachelor, American Idol, etc) and I'm comfortable with that. I do watch 24, South Park and Survivor to counter balance!! Not that I need to counter balance anything, because, you know, I'm comfortable with that...

I tend to watch more angel though......but buffy is still in the top 5. I really don't think people should put a gender on things. It's like saying only guys like football (or sports) and the fact is that ive seen tons of girls showing love for sports!

Right there with you PJ!
Although, girls who genuinely LOVE sports (baseball, football, soccer...)? Of course there's a lot of them out there but based on my experience half of them will just watch because they think the players are super hot or whatever.
I'm a guy and I don't like watching sports, so I know stereotypes don't apply to everybody but we have to recognize that stereotypes often apply to a vast majority though.

If we were going to stereotype that it's a "girly show" because lots of gay guys watch the show, then we'd have to also include the boat load of lesbians who also watch and who are also stereotyped as being "manly." Wouldn’t those stereotypes like counterbalance each other or something?
Stereotypes are becoming increasingly outdated and shouldn’t really be used to determine anything. Lots of it is just ignorance.
If you were going to base the show on stereotypes then it appeals to both genders. Stereotypically, the demons/supernatural/action/stunts is very much a male thing, which the show has an abundance of. The drama/relationships/feminine female lead is very much a female thing, which again the show all has. Comedy probably leans slightly towards the male then the female, but really is pretty gender-neutral and appeals to both sexes. So “stereotypically” it should appeal to both genders.
Ignoring all of those outdated stereotypes, it appeals to both again. I’m a (straight) male who enjoys all of the relationships and the drama as much as I do the ass kicking and demons. I don’t fit those stereotypes and most fans I am friendly with online don’t either. My male friends who watch the show are both gay and straight and both enjoy the show. I don’t have any gay female friends, but all the straight ones like it as well.
The fact the show is written by a straight male who’s also a feminist should tell you everything about these ridiculous stereotypes. I’m sure the same people who claim the show is “girly” are the same people who would think only females can be feminists.

I am also a straight male who likes all aspects of the show pretty much evenly. These stereotypes of girly bits and manly bits surely only extend as far as the pretty base assumption that men don't like displays of emotion and women don't like displays of violence - something that I doubt applies to many here either way.

Although, in this case you're making a lot of excellent points. My problem is probably that, based on my experience, I consider that there wass not a lot of straight guys who watched the show (doesn't mean there was none) and I might draw the wrong conclusions. Man, i wish a real scientific survey could be conducted on the subject

Man, i wish a real scientific survey could be conducted on the subject Its an interesting discussion, but I guess I wonder what really matters here. In regards to being PC, there is a difference between being politically correct and being prejudice. If you say "Some gay men like girly things", there is nothing wrong with that statement. If you say "Most gay men like girly things" there is a problem with that statement because it is only based on your personal experience. We all live in our own bubbles with limited exposure to what is out there in the world. My good friend that is gay is a sports fanatic, is super messy, and is one of the most manly men you could meet. He doesn't particularly like Buffy or things like it. His husband also loves sports; and Buffy. They are two different people with different interests. I guess getting back to original topic, why do we have to categorize show as "girly" or "manly"? What makes Buffy (and Dollhouse for that matter, who says that's a girly show?) such a great show is that is contains all of these different elements for all sorts of people. The girls are powerful and strong but they ain't bad to look at either. Dudes love girls that kick ass and girls love girls that kick ass. Something for everyone.

For example, people think gays are girly. This is untrue. Actually most gay people are not girly. The reason people think this is because the girly ones are noticed more and therefore all gay people are tagged as girly.

When Buffy first started on TV all I heard was girls talking about "Angel and Buffy", "Buffy and Angel". Sounded to me like a bunch of mushy junk.
The show had been around a few years when FX began airing two episodes a day, five days a week. I happened to be bored one day and caught part of it. Don't remember what episode exactly it was, but it made me laugh and I found the characters interesting.
After that I was hooked. Kicked myself in the butt for thinking it was some dumb girly drama and not watching from the start.
