Before Dollhouse, the only thing I'd ever seen her in was Neighbours (an Aussie soap loved by a great deal of us over here in the UK). The thing that always struck me about her was just how bad an actress she was. I mean, Neighbours has some of the worst, most wooden acting on television, but she was so bad that it was actually distracting.
It just surprises me that Joss, who is absolutely fantastic when it comes to picking superb actors, chose her for Sierra, which is quite a important role.
Meh. Maybe it's 'cos she looks good in leather...

she actually did a pretty good job as Taffy in "Gray Hour".

I was nervous about her being on the show because after she was cast all I would read was how unbelievably bad of an actress she was. But now, nine episodes in, I think she is one of the most talented members of the cast. I find her to be more believable when she is imprinted with different personalities than both Eliza and Enver, who are also great. I'm very glad Joss gave her the job.

I definitely ditto that. Dollhouse wouldn't be the same, as believable, without Dichen.

I haven't found Dichen's performances so far bad at all. Her imprints have all been great and believable and her scenes in "Needs" were some of the best in the episode.

I couldn't believe it Katya from Neighbours when I watched the first episode! I literally couldn't believe anyone would cast Dichen as she was AWFUL on Neighbours, even with their low standards (I'm not complaining about the bad acting by the way, thats part of the many charms of Neighbours!).
I guess she is doing an ok job, a lot better than I thought she would do. I do think she is the weakest cast member though. I also think she is weakest as Sierra, I just don't think she does the whole innocent, child like thing very well. She just comes off moody (more teenage than child).

Yeah, I think she struggles a bit with playing child-like Sierra, which is where Eliza excels I think. But it seems Eliza struggles with the different personalities, where Dichen excels. So it seems like a win-lose.

Personally, I think Eliza is better than Dichen at playing a more diverse range of characters. I think the guy who plays Victor is the best "doll" and has been the most believable in all his different personas. He does good accents!

Dichen is pretty good. Her performance on Needs was REALLY good, and she does a pretty convincing bad-ass assassin. I mean, she was kinda scary in Spy in the House of Love!!
It's really hard to believe that Dichen was such a terrible actress on her previous works. Well, I guess she improved a lot and made quite an impression on her audition to Joss, 'cause Sierra to Echo is (or will possibly be) like Willow to Buffy. Really important in the cast.

Hey, I'm not knocking Dichen in Dollhouse. I should probably have made that clear. Whilst she isn't my favourite actor on the show, she pulls off Sierra (and what they do with Sierra) very well.
My point was I'm surprised Joss cast someone who, as far as I've seen, was rubbish in previous parts. But then again, I had only seen her as Katya in Neighbours.

I like Miracle! She can totally only play one part though, but I think she plays it well so I don't mind. I can't imagine her playing any of the "badass" parts Eliza or Dichen play though.

Though, in MotS, Miracle exhibited some depth between "Mellie" and the sleeper active. Very "Manchurian Candidate."
The truth about Miracle is, we haven't seen much in terms of different characters from her, not even close to the other actives on the show. Perhaps this is speaking to the actor's talent and the show compensating, or perhaps there is more in store for the character.

It was an action scene, though. She had no dialogue. Outside of some good choreography, it didn't really show her acting range to any real degree.
Hopefully we'll see more of her, but it does seem like she's going to be Mellie for a while yet...
