Briar Rose aka Sleeping Beauty was rescued by her shiny prince (like what Ballard was attempting to do, and what Alpha succeeded in doing).
If you're wondering what that whole "read it again but from the Prince's pov", I think it was Joss trying to play Echo in a less "helpless victim" light and thereby making her rescuer an extension of herself, thoroughly tying Alpha to Echo.

well, i know the little girl hated the book because the girl couldn't save herself, just like she couldn't. both the girl and the character in the story had to wait for someone else to rescue them, and that's why she hated it so much.

True, but they stipulated that was when you were old or young and you couldn't. But if you remember, Susan was "rescued", or was in the process of, by Echo who was imprinted with Susan as a healthy adult. Echo was the Prince, saving herself.
It's interesting how that goes into Omega where Echo, enlightened, saves herself by going against Alpha's plan to eliminate Caroline. Funny how in the end though, it was Ballard who saved Caroline. Perhaps Ballard is Echo's shining prince (aka extension of self) after all.
