HI! Well my Watcher Midnight Butterfly (you) is a really great watcher. No joking, he helped me when I was having trouble with my banner, and when I was just generally clueless. No doubt he will be a great source of help in the future too! Midnight Butterfly! Woo! This site is great and the watcher feature is fantastic, everyone should have one!

Um, I think the actual watcher program is great at the moment... but I don't think the assigning of watchers is working.
Atm it's so messy -someone creates a thread and then 10 watchers post saying THEY want to be the watcher...and I know it's first come first served - but then people who already have watchees are askng to watch more than one when other watchers may not have had a change with any yet.
For a solution - I'm not sure. I just know right now it's kind of like a race &/or a bidding war! I think this could potentially be intimidating for people looking for a watcher that see the other messy threads!
First reply = entitlement makes SENSE but it's not really working in theory and it means that the watchers are not working harmoniously with each other.
I'm sure those who have so far been able to act on their watcher-duties have done a great job - but the actually getting a watcher process is not very desirable IMO...
You may disagree - and that's fine, if everyone is content with the way it's going right now then it can stay the same...
My only idea - which has already been shutdown, was like a 'Watcher roster' - so people have certain weeks that they are primary watcher and can pick up 2 or 3 new watchees that will last them a couple of weeks before their next intake... But this is a more complex and structured idea that most people probably won't want. So I'm fresh out of ideas.

Why don't you just have an order of Watchers, so there is never any questions about who will watch the next new member that asks for one? I don't know who currently has a watchee, so this is just an example, but just go by the order that people signed up to be watchers. Secret Scoobie was first, so she should become the Watcher of whoever asks next. Then Midnight Butterfly, Just Willow, and so on. Whoever already has a watchee would just be skipped.
That seems like the best solution to me, because like SS pointed out, the bombardment of Watchers offering every time a new member joins can become a little much.

Personally, I like the one-on-one buddy system the watcher program is intended to be. It's the assignment that is the messy place, and can be cleared up rather easily by following these fairly simple guidelines:
1) If you have a watchee, no more posting in the "I need a watcher" threads. Let the other watchers without someone to watch post there. Focus on helping your watchee. 2) Once a watchee has began a thread, the FIRST watcher to post (which should not have an assigned watchee according to #1 above) is assigned to that watchee. 3) Use the thread to post with your watchee, or just use PM. No one besides the watcher and watchee should ever be posting in that thread. 4) Once your watchee has "graduated" and is no longer being watched, you may post for watchees again.
Sound good, everyone?

I second Rebecca's solution! It's eminently sensible.
