Something that's always bugged me about season 7 is how crappy the video quailty is. Has anyone else noticed this? The earlier episodes look pretty good but the later ones are very poor quality. It's one of the biggest things (besides Kennedy) that makes season 7 less enjoyable for me.

i never thought of this before, but thinking back now it's like, hey. wow. weird. It doesn't bother me a whole lot, but it is kind of annoying!

It's very annoying. Even though seasons 1 & 2 are grainy, they are at least consistent looking. Season 7 is so random. It's not just certain episodes. Certain scenes just look like crap. I'd have to say cinematography-wise season 7 is the worst season of Buffy.

Do you mean cinematography or just the video quality of the DVD sets? They are actually different. The cinematography (look of the show) never really changed much; S1-S3 are more muted in color and then there was a shift in tone that S4-S7 maintain that is a bit brighter than the early seasons. As for picture quality, you are referring to how the show was transfered to DVD. But I agree that Season 7 does have a few issues in terms of video quality. The show wasn't filmed any differently in its last season, but somehow when it was transfered to DVD, there are a few problems that are annoying. Season 6 is probably the best looking Season of Buffy on DVD. The image doesn't have any major problems throughout besides the minor ones that are apparent throughout all of the DVD sets (grain and dips in sharpness). Season 7, on the other hand, just wasn't transfered as well as Season 6 to DVD. The quality is fairly typical of the way the past couple of seasons have looked, but like I mentioned, the quality dips a little more than the past few seasons. I will say though, that the shots early on in the season of Willow and Giles in England are easily the best looking scenes in the show's history. Then we have an episode like "Selfless" where the picture isn't as sharp as usual throughout the entire episode. "Showtime" and "Potential" also have noticeable dips in quality. I think "The Killer in Me" is the best example of the season's picture problems, as it has some great looking scenes (like the final scene where Willow and Kennedy reunite), and then it also has some scenes with way too much noise and grain. It's just weird for the DVD set to be so uneven. Luckily "Chosen" wasn't plagued with any of these out of the ordinary problems. Hehe is it obvious that I look waaaaaay into this stuff too much?? Ever since I made the jump to Blu-Ray I have become quite the video/picture quality connoisseur.

Ugh, the picture quality on the Season 7 DVDs just bugs the crap out of me. The Killer in Me is definitely the best example. I find myself more focused on how awful the picture looks than the episode itself. It's nearly impossible to see anything during the Buffy and Spike Initiative scenes. It's also extremely noticeable when Buffy jumps down to the basement in Lessons. I really hate that set.
