I watched the first few episodes and the movie, but just couldn't get into it. It may have to do with the fact that I'm not into spacey stuff or westerns. I always get a lot of crap from my friends who are Whedon fans when they find out that I'm not a fan of this show. I really wanted to like it. I love Joss. Buffy, Angel, & Dollhouse are my top 3 favorite shows. I just really don't care for Firefly. Sometimes I feel like this makes me the underdog of Whedon fans. I was just curious if anyone else was not really feeling this show.

I totally agree. i don't mind Firefly & Serenity but I've never been able to get into them as much as Buffy and Angel. I also don't love space related stuff. i prefer the Earthy type mythical shows. Whedon is still an amazing writer and did a great job with them, they just aren't really for me.

I think that only watching the first few episodes of Firefly isn't a fair chance. The first episode is LONG and kinda slow, the second episode picks up a bit, but doesn't really grab your attention. For me, I had to force my way through the first third of the season, and the last 2/3 of the shows were all awesome. Maybe try watching the whole season? A lot of character development happens quickly in that show, cuz they knew they were canceled, so perhaps you'll like the later episodes.
As for the movie, I personally think it's great, so maybe if you're not into the movie, you just won't like Firefly either, lol. Sci-fi western isn't for everyone, but the thing that got me is the amazing characters. I fell in love with the entire cast, and that's why I like the show and the movie so much. Hope this might, I don't know, help? Of course, not everyone's going to love every single thing Joss does.

I've only seen Serenity. I could tell it was a well-made film but it just wasn't really my thing. It didn't make me want to watch Firefly.

It's cool if you aren't. I wasn't, not until a few months ago. Then out of nowhere, I decided I must see Firefly! I'm not sure what happened, but I got the DVDs, plowed through them, and decided it was wonderful.
Prior to that, I had decided I was meh about the whole idea. Space westerns... meh! I'm not sure what set me off, but now I quite enjoy the story and would love to see more of it.

I'm with UnKle. I actually today just finished watching all of Firefly and Serenity. I thought it was amazing. It's true that you have to get through the first few episodes of Firefly to really get into it because they're setting everything up, kind of like Dollhouse in that way but then you see it and it's just amazing.
I actually watched it because of Dr. Horrible. Even though I love Joss I didn't watch anything that I wouldn't like if it weren't by him. Turns out Joss is the difference that makes it (empire recordsism (and Ally McBealism by extention)). Anyway I think it's awesome but I understand tht not everyone will. These are two genres that I never got into but I love them by Joss. He just makes the characters so believable and the world believable by extention.

Firefly was what got me to watch Buffy in the first place. I did everything out of order lol
I'd seen Serenity and liked it, so bought Firefly (not having a clue who Joss Whedon was!) - loved Firefly and finally decided to give this Buffy thing a chance - a couple of friends had been bugging me to watch it for ages.
And now whilst I still love Firefly, I much prefer BtVS.
That said, it took me a while to get into Firefly... the pilot starts out quite slowly.

My husband (then boyfriend, at the time) was the one who got me into Firefly. I admit that despite being a fan of both Buffy and Angel, I wasn't really feeling it at first. Firefly has a very different feel to it than Joss's other works, but after giving it a chance and watching it all the way through, I found that I really started to like it, and now love it. I find that these characters are capable of evoking the same emotion in me as the Buffy characters. I found myself really beginning to care about the lives of these characters as they journeyed through space together. I think this is a true testament to Joss's writing style and his ability to create characters that we can't help but fall in love with. True, Buffy willl always be my favorite, but I love Firefly too. And I can honestly say that I am a fan of all things Joss.

I tried to watch the Pilot episode once and could not get through the first ten minutes. I gave up on it. A friend however told me that the pilot should be the last thing I watch and recommended I start with the next episode, The Train Job. I actually watched it earlier today and I quite enjoyed it-- probably not as much as BtVS, Angel, or Dollhouse, but it's worth watching. Either way, I'm discovering a Whedon series for the first time. I love that feeling.

I saw Serenity (pretty much completely down to the fact that it was Joss' film) and thought it was okay, and then saw Firefly on sale so I bought that as well. Must have tried 3 or 4 episodes, watched them positively, really trying to like it, but I just couldn't get into it! I don't know why. I guess everybody's different and all that, but I just felt like I should like it because it's Joss Whedon. Buffy and Angel are my all time favourite TV shows, and now Dollhouse is up there as well, but Firefly just didn't really do anything for me, you know?

I'm still having a hard time getting into Firefly. I watched the Pilot and The Train Job. The characters still do not grab my attention. I don't like the Captain - maybe because I don't like Nathan Fillion as Caleb and I can't detach myself from that. I don't like that "grumpy but with a golden heart" kind. Heck, but I'll keep trying, even there is no magic to Firefly's beginning ...

Grumpy with a golden heart pretty much sums him up though, but there are so many other great Firefly characters to love. I had trouble getting into it myself at first also, but now that I've watched all that there is to watch, I find myself wishing it wasn't canceled.

Eh, its not my favorite thing Joss has done. I enjoyed the series and the movie was remotely interesting, but I certainly didn't miss it the way I did when Angel got cut short or when Buffy ended the series. When Wash died, that kinda turned me off to the movie. Maybe I've finally gotten sick of Joss killing people. I dunno. It just seemed unnessesary. -shrugs-

God I love Firefly. I will admit though that the first two episodes are very slow, but by the time I watched bushwhacked I knew I liked it. The more I watch it the more I like it, and Objects in Space is probably one of my favourite episodes of television ever made, just barely behind The Gift.
I'm pretty sure had Firefly continued it had a good chance of surpassing Buffy as my favourite show.
