Highlights of every season of Buffy

I don’t think this belongs to any thread in particular but I just felt like summing up the highlights of every season of BTVS to help me figure out what seasons I liked the best because, let’s face it, we all try to rank the seasons from our favorite to the one we liked the least but it’s not always easy to tell. For example I recently came to realize that seasons 4 and 6, which were not my favorite seasons in the first place, include many of my favorite episodes for some reasons… So technically and objectively, here are the highlights of every season we can all agree on, I think. It might give us a general idea of what seasons were the most eventful after all.

Season 1:

- First appearances of the main Scoobies
- First showdown Buffy/Master
- First appearance of Amy
- Buffy falls for Angel and finds out he’s vampire
- Darla gets killed by Angel after she tried to set him up
- Buffy dies for the first time but is brought back to life by Xander
- She defeats the Master

Season 2:

- Oz arrives in the picture
- Spike and Drusilla arrive in Sunnydale
- Kendra shows up and she gets killed by Drusilla
- Buffy and Angel makes love and Angel loses his soul
- Angel turns into Angelus and teams up with Spike and Dru
- The gang finds out Oz is a werewolf
- Oz and Willow are a couple
- Xander and Cordy are a couple
- Angelus kills Jenny
- Buffy kills Angel right after Willow restored his soul

Season 3:

- Faith arrives in Sunnydale
- Angel is back from hell
- Spike comes back
- Cordy breaks up with Xander
- Anya’s first appearance in The Wish
- The First Evil’s first appearance
- Amy turns herself into a rat
- Giles is fired and arrives Wesley
- Faith kills a man
- Faith turns to the dark side and teams up with the Mayor
- Buffy and Angel break up
- Buffy puts Faith into a coma
- The gang defeats the Mayor and blows up the school
- Angel leaves Sunnydale

Season 4:

- Buffy, Willow and Oz start College
- Xander starts dating Anya for real
- Spike returns to Sunnydale
- Oz falls for Veruca, breaks up with Willow and decides to leave Sunnydale
- Spike is captured by the Initiative and a chip is put into his head
- First appearance of Tara
- Angel secretly comes back in town
- Buffy dates Riley
- Hush episode
- Pr. Walsh is killed by Adam
- Adam reveals himself
- Faith wakes up and exchanges bodies with Buffy
- Oz returns to Sunnydale and Willow chooses Tara over him
- Angel visits again
- Spike sparks up tensions inside the gang
- The gang, reunited, defeats Adam
- Restless episode announces what’s to come

Season 5:

- Buffy meets Dracula
- Dawn shows up out of nowhere
- Glory makes her first appearance
- Buffy finds out Dawn is the Key
- Tara finds her place in the gang
- Spike discovers he has feelings for the slayer
- Joyce has a brain tumor
- Riley gives Buffy an ultimatum and leaves Sunnydale
- Dawn discovers she is the Key
- Drusilla returns to Sunnydale and Spike lets Buffy know about his feelings
- Joyce dies
- Angel comes back
- Tara’s brain is sucked by Glory
- The Gang tries to flee
- The Gang confronts Glory and saves Dawn
- Buffy dies for the second time

Season 6:

- Buffy is replaced by a Buffybot
- Willow brings Buffy back to life
- The Trio are the new big bad in town
- Anya and Xander announce their engagement
- Once More With Feeling episode
- Tara and Willow argue over magic abuse and break up
- Giles leaves the US
- Willow transforms Amy back to her human form
- Willow realizes she’s addicted to using magic
- Spike and Buffy sleep together for the first time
- Riley returns to town with his new girlfriend
- Xander calls his wedding off, leaving Anya at the altar
- Anya and Spike end up doing it and the gang finds out about Buffy and Spike
- Willow and Tara get back together
- Spike tries to rape Buffy
- Buffy stops the Trio
- Warren shoots Buffy and Tara, and Tara dies instantly
- Dark Willow goes on a rampage and kills Warren
- Giles comes back
- Willow tries to end the world but Xander stops her
- Spike wins his soul back in Africa

Season 7:

- Giles tries to rehabilitate Willow in England
- Dawn goes to Sunnydale High
- Spike reveals to Buffy he has a soul
- Willow comes back
- Buffy is hired as a Counselor at Sunnydale High by Principal Wood
- Buffy has to deal with Anyanka after she killed a bunch of students
- Conversation With Dead People episode, first appearance of the First
- Andrew comes back and kills Jonathan
- New potentials start to arrive
- Spike acts suspicious under the influence of the First
- Andrew is held captive at the Summer’s house
- Willow starts dating Kennedy
- Storyteller episode
- Wood and Giles team up in an attempt to kill Spike
- Faith returns to Sunnydale
- The gang loses a big battle against Caleb
- Buffy is kicked out of the house and Faith takes the leadership
- Buffy finds the scythe
- Buffy defeats Caleb
- Angel has a cookie talk with Buffy
- Willow uses a powerful spell to turn the potential into slayers
- Anya and Spike die in the battle
- The First is defeated and Sunnydale is destroyed

Ahaha, what do you mean? You started a new list just now? To compare with mine? I think I pretty much covered everything. If I left anything out, please let me know! It's the point of this thread, I guess. (I do feel like this thread is actually kind of pointless to be honest but I was bored in my backyard this afternoon so I started making a list while I was soaking up the sun).

Edit: I did add Darla in Season 1 though, I had forgotten to mention her.

yeah, i was trying to see if i could come up with stuff you don't have, but i couldn't.

anyways, i voted Season 6 as most eventful, because lots of stuff happened to every character, not just Buffy.

It's funny because I came to realize that I didn't have anything to say about Dawn after Season 5!!!

I did think about mentioning that she starting stealing stuff, but seriously, who really cared? It was just a phase without consequences. Let me know if you can think of anything important she did between Season 6 and 7!

in terms of the most happening in one season: 7

in terms of Buffy's life: toss up between 5 and 6

After giving it a lot of thought, I decided to go with Season 4, because a lot of things change during this season, which makes it very eventful. Anya, Tara and Riley join the group. Oz leaves Sunnydale. Willow has some amazing character development. Spike comes back full time. Faith also makes a memorable come-back. Two crossovers with Angel. Some awesome episodes like Hush and Restless.

I don't know, it was hard to pick one anyway. All the seasons are very eventful in my opinion.

(I guess summing it all up didn't help me after all!)

Okay, let's deal with these in season order.

Season 1 - Introduction of the core Scoobies. Nightmares is a good ep as is The Puppet Show, I Robot, You Jane and Prophecy Girl.

season 2 - Ethan Rayne. jenny's death. Angelus. Spike and Drusilla,

Season 3 - The Mayor. Faith. So many great episodes it boggles the mind. Great way to end the High School years.

Season 4 - Tara. Hush. Restless. Riley (I always kinda liked Riley). Adam (good villain just not well used).

Season 5 - Glory. her minions (so many naff but enjoyably funny lines when they were praising her). Family. Fool For Love. The Body. The Gift.

Season 6 - dark tone. The Musical. Good performances.

Season 7 - was funny in places. Caleb. Chosen.

I decided on Season 7. That was the season that overwhelmed me the most.

Dawn goes to Sunnydale high?
Buffy gets a real job?
Spike wears a blue bright sweater!?!
There's potentials?
Andrew is accepted into the gang!
Willow's dating again!!!
Giles & Wood tricks Buffy and tries to kill Spike!?!?!
Everyone's having sex!?!
BUFFY GETS KICKED OUT OF HER OWN HOUSE!!!
There's lots of new slayers!?!
Anya & Spike dies!!!!
Sunnydale collapses!!!

That's kinda my reaction to season 7.

Not sure Spike's death can really be counted as by that point we all knew he was going over to Angel so it was in some ways a meaningless gesture. Okay the character didn't know that but the writers did.

Well, he came back, so it's not that big of a deal.

Really look like it should have hurt tough(anyone else who thought it was weird when he looked almost at piece in Chosen but in Angel, when he came back, he was more upset?)

No. he thought he was going out the big hero in Chosen but when he got yanked back to life in Angel he was rightly ticked off. So it didn';t jar for me in that way.

For me what jarred is that they set it up for the big kiss off when by then we all knew his character was coming back so it felt a little like manipulation. Okay, writer's job but this time it felt a little hollow.

I should have been clearer, I mean as if he was in more physical pain.

He was smiling in Chosen, screaming on Angel.

Maybe being pulled back hurt more than being burned.
