Though #17 had me kind of scratching my head, since its a list of "the 25 most important SF & fantasy heroines of all time" I'm kind of sick of hearing about how hot Megan Fox is to be honest. Cool list, although the omission of Cordelia is sad. At least they included Willow and Sarah Jane. What the hell is Halle Berry's portrayal of Storm doing there though? Berry was horribly miscast as Storm, they should have put Jean instead.

I'm kind of sick of hearing about how hot Megan Fox is to be honest. She's hot because all the magazines say she is. And they say she is because her PR team is paying them lots of money to do so. Glad to see Xena made the list, although... science fiction? Well, she did invent cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

the only ones i've even heard of is 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 14, 21, 22, 23...
though i agree with Ripley's lead... Buffy's a good number 2!

Yea I honestly haven't heard of alot of people on that list either. I don't watch much TV, so besides Buffy, I'm not too familiar with the TV heroines.

Except for Megan Fox, I've seen all of them in the shows they are famous for. A very interesting list. Brought back much good TV memories - going back to the 60's and 70's. Stingray was a favourite as was Fireball XL5 and the other supermarrionette shows.

It's nice to see Ivanova from B5 make the list - she's tough as nails. Can't say I agree with some of them though. Leeloo at 10 is a stretch, and I agree with Paul730 that Halle Berry's incarnation of Storm was hardly the most memorable (I thought the cartoon had a lot more character...). Pris hardly strikes me as a heroine: she is kinda nuts and definitely under the thumb of Roy (Rutger Hauer), so hardly what I would call a 'strong' female character. No. 6 and Xena should be higher imo just because they take shit from no-one.

Yay! I great list. I agree with everyones comments about Storm and Megan Fox... what the frak! Upsetting that Boomer from BSG isnt on there and Six should surely be higher! A modern female sci-fi icon if ever there was one!

How the hell is Sarah Jane in that list...? She's the most famous and iconic Doctor Who companion (from the classic series anyway) and has her own spin-off, which is excellent. She deserves to be in the list.

Not a bad list. Lists like these are not based on empirical data and as such are always more subjective than objective. I actually, though I ma Buffy fan, would not have placed her above Sarah Conner who I think paved the way for tough female roles that didn't fall into the category of "butch" (although i guess one could argue that Ellen Ripley sort of paved the way for that as well). Truth is, without Ripley and Sarah Conner, Buffy would have been an even harder sell as a character.
As for Willow, given that she was such a multi-faceted character, and ehr coming out was certainly groundbreaking tv (no Tara though which surprises me a little) I would have placed her higher.
But overall I can't really argue with the list.

But overall I can't really argue with the list. I too would have put Sarah Connor higher up, but possibly not above Buffy. I wouldn't have been outraged if she was though. Buffy, Ripley, and Sarah are all fairly equal as feminist icons in my eyes (and I'm not even an Alien fan). You could include those three in any order and it would just be a matter of personal taste. I know Tara's a cult favourite with Buffy fans, but she really doesn't belong on this list. She's just not that important to sci fi or pop culture as a whole, she was only ever really notable as Willow's girlfriend. Willow is a much more significant and well-rounded character.

Let's see...
I totally agree with Ripley as #1...that role has existed for a while and Sigourney was amazing it...Buffy as #2 is great...anyone else notice in the description that one of her attributes is "gifted student"...that made me lol a little bit, even though I love my Buffy dearly. I think that Sarah Connor should've been a little higher. Seeing Daryl Hannah on that list gave me a little bit of a time warp and made me realize I hadn't seen Blade Runner in a reaaaally long time. Rock on with Willow(great picture of her as DW!) and Barbarella.
I'll join the Megan Fox anti-parade...I mean, she is pretty, but she was just kinda...there when she was in Transformers. Maybe she'll do something more exciting besides run behind Shia LeBouf in the next one? idk. She's pretty but I think it's shoved in our faces a little too much.

Buffy scored a 1430 on her SAT's! So I guess she's (unrealistically) gifted

Yeah, and don't forget the brief period during Season 4 when it looks like she could even match Willow intellectually. I always get the impression that she could be an ace student if her head was in the game.

I don't understand all the Megan Fox worshipping. I mean yeah, she's pretty, but she is by NO means the hottest woman on earth. Although I have nothing but love for Buffy & Claire. And Willow! And Janeway! And Starbuck! Hell, I love 'em all.

I don't even think Megan Fox is pretty, she has a harsh face and looks manish. Yay for Buffy and Sydney Bristow!! I'm so on an Alias kick right now
