Vampires do have blood. Hence him bleeding a million times on the show. Remember him spitting out blood in "Apocalypse Nowish." Different writers have different vampire mythologies. In the Buffyverse, vamps are shown to absolutely have blood.

I think that vampires probably have blood from the peoples that they drink. It would make sense.

So Angel's been bleeding rat and pig blood this whole time? That doesn't make much sense to me...

well it must be blood from people/things they have drank from, as angel has lost alot of blood, and his body doesnt create new blood....there for he must of run out of his own 200 odd years ago. Im guessing whats in him now is just a mix of what he has drunk.

His body creates new blood. It has to. The vampire body is a paradox and it doesn't make sense, but--other than a beating heart and a working set of lungs (kinda)--everything seems to work. They have nervous systems. Their brains are functional. They bleed. They feel pain. They can see, they can smell, they can taste. They can SMOKE, which refutes the 'no breathing' thing, in the same way that their bleeding refutes not having a beating heart.

i dont recall ever reading or seeing anything about buffyverse vampires creating their own blood. Correct me if im wrong though.

here is one of the strongest arguments for my case. If they dont drink blood, like Angel when he was locked at the bottom of the ocean, then why do they dry up, skin start to crack, they look like famine victims but worse. because they dont create their own blood and need to drink to stop body from becoming useless or maybe even rotting.

If Joss never specified, well then none of it matters because there is no right or wrong.

Key word here is famine victim.

Blood is a vampire's food. If they have none, it makes sense that they'd look like a famine victim.

I think this is very much a matter of opinion when it comes down to it, but I have always accepted the idea that vampires bleed their own blood. Both opinions are justified, I think.
