At the end of issue#7 George reads the vampires mind to hear "slayer" being repeated. Well in Buffy season 3 episode "earshot". Buffy tries to read Angel's mind and finds out that you can't read vampires minds. So I was wondering if this was just a error, or if it's different for some reason. Brian, feel free to step in. It's just puzzling me.

Probably an error, but I'm sure it would have been written the same even if the "Earshot" thing had been taken into account. Buffy's mind-reading thing was kinda like a disease she caught. Betta George's POWER is to read minds, in that telepathy is as natural to him as breathing. Plus, he could control it--Buffy couldn't. And I think those two things make all the difference.

It's something I've been wondering about Betta George's ability.
"It's like the mirror. The thoughts are there, but they create no reflection in you. You got the aspect of the demon." - Angel in Earshot
So this establishes that vampires' minds can't be read.
But this scene from 'The Gift' seems to contradict this as Willow understands what Spike is saying (she must be reading his thoughts since she's too far away to hear) in response to her telepathic communication:
WILLOW VOICEOVER: Spike. Can you hear me? SPIKE: (frowns) Yeah, loud and clear. WILLOW VOICEOVER: Is there someone up there with Dawn? SPIKE: Yeah, can't tell who. XANDER: Are you talking to us? WILLOW VOICEOVER: Get up there. Go now. SPIKE: Yeah, but- WILLOW VOICEOVER: Go!
The ability to mind-read vampires seems like another discontinuity. I personally like the first explanation about vampires minds being impervious to telepathy.

Willow's magicks could have easily made her capable of hearing Spike from such a far distance away. And I think that George's telepathy is a different brand of power than what Buffy caught from the demons in "Earshot". I know that sounds odd, and unlikely, but that's just what I'd like to believe.

I wish I didn't notice these things that don't seem to line up...over 12 years of Buffyverse adds up to quite a number of discontinuity.
Maybe Willow did have a magical way to hear Spike since he was speaking out loud. But Betta George's mind reading a vampire goes against what Angel said about the nature of a vampire's mind. Although maybe BG's power is different enough that its possible, like how Angel has a reflection in the Pylean dimension. Maybe the power stretches or alters the rules somehow.

One thing to think about is the fact that telepathy and mind-reading are not the same thing. Mind-reading is a one-way connection, and telepathy is "The supposed ability to transmit thoughts directly to the mind of another, or to receive thoughts directly from the mind of another, without any normal causal interaction." So it's like a two-way connection. Maybe vamps can't be read, but if someone has the ability to initiate a telepathic communication, it's possible that the vampire mind allows that?

To add to the fire, Lorne can read Angel's destiny. It's not mind reading, but its empathic.

I found it interesting how Angel knew Buffy was trying to read his thoughts. Maybe he could feel her trying to probe his mind.
I'll settle for the theory that Betta George is so cool that he can even read vampire minds.
I guess such inconsistencies in the vampire mythos are the price for so many different authors writing the Buffyverse. Besides, consistency of characterization is more important.

I'll settle for the theory that Betta George is so cool that he can even read vampire minds. Brian probably appreciates that. Betta George is beastly. Like Dracula in Issue 15 of Season Eight. But in a different way.

But in a different way. Brian Lynch just confirmed in his third audioblog that Betta George can read vampires minds because he's super-powerful! Woot! We totally got it right.

Betta George is able to read vampire's minds because if he couldn't, it would have been 4 issues of a fish staring at Spike for some weird reason.
Oh, and he's really powerful. You'll see...

I love Betta George! I didn't know what to think of him at first, but now I find him to be hilarious.

Has anyone seen That 70's Show? When I try to imagine a voice for Betta George, I think of the hippie Leo, played by Tommy Chong.

I was always curious about how people imagined Betta George's voice. I just use some regular dude's voice, but kind of muffled, like they are talking underwater.

I always imagine him having a real cool like stereotypical 'black' accent
I can't think of any actors who's voice i imagine, sort of gruff like Jeff Fahey (he plays Frank Lapidus on lost) and Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Lol I wonder how the writers hear him!!!
