ugh, i hate connor...i'm looking forward to finding out what exactly happened to Gunn. who vamped him and all, y'know? Ya I think thats the reason Gunn's story is being saved for part three, eveybody is dying to know who turned him. And I don't think it was Spike. As for Connor, like alot people I hated him is S4 but he was better in S5. I'd like to see how he meet Spike and Gwen.

I never hated Connor, I just thought his characterization was handled poorly in Season 4 (thought he was okay in Season 3), and I loved him in Season 5 and now in AtF.
As for Gunn, I have a feeling that Harmony turned him.

It's possible, she could of stumbled upon Gunn bleeding and near death then sired him, thinking she was saving him.

I never hated Connor either. I think he's a great character and always was. I like the Harmony theory by the way.

I'm interested in what people thought of the issue. I have mixed feelings towards it. Spike's story was awesome. Conner's was pretty good. I had a headache so I didn't really read all of Lorne's but it looked interesting.
I wanted to like the Beta George Masterfish theater, but what's holding me back is George himself.
I can't wrap my brain around him as character. Maybe it's because I can't find a voice for him in my head. I haven't quite emotionally attached to him. I want to.
Has the webbing around him been explained?

Looks like that Spike cover that was advertised as being for #8 is actually just the other cover for #7.

Looks like that Spike cover that was advertised as being for #8 is actually just the other cover for #7. Yeah, that's what Chris mentions at the end. Says something about the guy giving a variant for #7. Which is a relief because while it looks cool, it doesn't have that Cover A feel to it. Issue was pretty cool. Spike's story was great and I cannot wait for S:ATF to help figure out Fred/Illyria. Connor's wasn't amazing but I liked it (regardless of the controversy on whedonesque.com). And Cordelia's panel was beautiful. Lorne's 4 page verse thing was cute and clever but I didn't fall in love with it.

Has the webbing around him been explained? Have you read "Spike: Shadow Puppets" ? It helps with getting Betta George IMO. And, the webbing was sort of explained when Gunn was talking to him (before beating George up). And, I really, really loved the issue. So much became clear to me and it was perfect! Oh....and so excited....gotta love my comic book store guy - he gets me the variants and today he also sold me the RI cover with Lorne - it is a great cover!!! The other cool thing is that he doesn't mark up any of the variants I get as I have a standing order for all things (comic) Joss with him.

I'm digging on Betta George. More than I thought I would. He has an incredulity that I like. And I want a plush toy of him. It's odd.
Not so sure about this First Night thing. The only part that really grabbed my attention was Spike's, most likely because Spike and Illyria/Fred are my favorite characters. But this storytelling style doesn't suit Brian well. He's good at developing pacing over a long, self-contained story. All this jumping around doesn't give anything a chance to get going properly.
And maybe I'm alone in this...but I HATED the Lorne part. Rhyme? Honestly? LAME, and deeply un Angel-esque. Also, I think Byrne is kind of past it, art-wise.

I thought this was pretty good and interesting. I loved Lorne's story so much, I had a great time reading it! The rhyme worked GREAT for Lorne's character and I had a huge smile on my face when the civilians made him Lord.
I loved the art in Connor's story. I thought the story itself was pretty good. I loved hearing his thoughts and can't wait for the conclusion. Whose going to save him? My guess is either some incarnation of Cordy or Darla.
I liked Spike's story but I didn't really get the whole Fred part. Am I an idiot or are we suppose to not know yet? The writing was great and I really loved David's art!
Can't wait for the next issue! And I really like the Harmony siring Gunn idea too, but only if he doesn't kill her... please. And Betta George is great! Working at a theme park? Hilarious! Also a poster! That is just too cool! Thanks IDW!

I haven't read all of these posts, just noticed that Betta George makes his return (finally). I really love that guy, he's just so darn hilarious. Can't wait to get my copy now.

Betta George doesn't really work at the theme park, he just kinda freaks people out there for fun.
I'm surprised and happy "douche lackey" got through Fox and IDW.

Oh, well then that makes it funnier than I already thought it was. I can't believe some of the stuff the writers got away with on the show. Like I just watched Calvary yesterday and completely forgot about Angelus telling Fred how he was going to "rape her to death". I'm happy "douche lackey" got through cause it made me laugh out loud.

Please, by all means, start a web-wide petition for a BETTA GEORGE one shot. I will make it worth everyone's while.

I seriously need to read Spike:Asylum. I don't know much about Betta George except what I've read in ATF but he/she? seems like a cool character.
I liked the part where Connor remembers that he slept with Cordelia. Hilarious.
And Spike saying something to the effect of "screw you Dawn!" and then hoping it wasn't taken out of context was pure awesomeness.
Definitely not what I expected from First Night. I was expecting it to be a little less humorous. But definitely interesting.

I'd so be into a Betta George comic. I'll be into a Betta George ONGOING, once I get my Betta George plush toy! ;-) I'm a little nervous that Cordy's coming back. SO over her. But can't wait for Spike: ATF. Brian, your Spike is pitch-perfect, and I think he's every BIT as important in terms of post-TV canonical character development as Angel or Buffy!
