I hate hate hate both of those pages. I think the art sucks, to be completely honest. The likenesses are AWFUL - particularly on the Lorne page.

I think the art in the Lorne page is supposed to look "childish", in a way, to fit with the poem that'll accompany it. I love the Spike page, though. (Messina does a great job with the hair and the cheekbones, particularly.) That looks like an ironic smile in the last panel...

Poem? Did I miss something?
I do agree that it looked like an ironic smile. I just don't necessarily agree that it looked like Spike.

Yeah, the Lorne page is done in verse. It's pretty sweet.

The Lorne page is a lot better when you see it with the words and everything. It's a cartoonish vibe, yeah, but it makes sense given how the page is written.
But the Spike page... That's easily Messina's best work ever. I'm the first to say that I haven't liked any of his work up until this point, but that Spike page is completely astonishing. I don't think there's any arguing that it doesn't look like Spike, because it just *does*. Those final three panels especially. I can very much see James Marsters in those last three panels.

I'm new to the world of comics, so I don't know what else Messina has done. These may be his best panels ever, but they just don't do it for me.
Did I know it was Spike? Of course. Can I see Spike doing what the guy on the page is doing? Definitely. That doesn't mean I have to think it looks like him.

I love those pages. Am looking forward to getting these issues.
As much as I like Franco's work, part of me still wishes that Messina had gotton the gig. This pages alone proves to me how great a job he would have done.
Still Franco's work is getting better each issue, so am happy with that.

I'm liking the Lorne page. I saw it in black and white with the poem, but I thought it was just concept art. I'm happy to see it in use.

I don't like the idea of small stories from different writers/artists. What I love about Buffy and Angel so far is they've kept a comics with the same art. With other comics, Ultimate X-Men for instance, the characters are looking different every couple of months! It's nice to have some cintinuty to a comic every now and then

Well, there aren't going to be any different writers. It's the same writer with different artists. It's only for the "First Night" story though, the main arc of "After the Fall" (Issues 1-5 and then 8-the end) is all pencilled by Franco Urru.

I kinda like the idea of the different artists. I kind gives it a "What if" feel. Like: "What if he did it?! I wonder what it would have looked like?". Well we now get to see that, plus it spices up the series each month!

I had that problem with Ultimate X-Men too. Not with the art, but with the writers. It constantly flip-flopped from being excellent to utter crap so often that I finally dropped it. The art was kind of annoying as well, but it was the inconsistency of the storytelling that bugged me.

Yeah, the Lorne page is done in verse. It's pretty sweet. Well, hello there Brian. Sorry I missed you. Hah! Can someone tell me what this means? He's just saying the Lorne page is in poetry form right?

I love both of the pages. Lorne added so much to Angel, so I am glad we will be seeing more of him (I wonder how he's handling the whole "LA in Hell" predicament), and I also love the panel of Spike looking out across L.A. Really spectacular.
