I enjoyed the movie very much. Whilst it didn't have the depth the tv show would eventually attain it is a perfectly enjoyable horro/comedy and as much as Joss didn't like him, Donald Sutherland really is quite good in it.

I remember watching it a few months before the series started (completely coincidentally) and enjoyed it quite a bit, although I didn't like the camp vampires so much. Rewatching after the series aired I enjoyed it even more, just because I was such a Buffy-obsessive by then. I still think it has some fantastic comedy moments, and a largely excellent cast. Kristy Swanson's Buffy is cool, I agree with AmbersKnight that Donald Sutherland is an excellent and tragic watcher. Probably the only character I don't like very much is Rutger Hauer as Lothos, who just comes across as a lecherous old man imo. I own the film on DVD and watch it often enough.

I think there may already be a thread for this somewhere but I will go on anyway. I only seen the movie like last month, way after I seen the TV show. I thought the film was okay. Although when I watched it I didn't associate it with the TV show at all, and watched it as though it was completely un-related.

I love the movie. I think it's a great comedy. But I don't at all associate it with the show, to me they are 2 totally different things.

I really disliked the movie. To me it was like someone took Lost Boys and tried to turn it into a chessy, crappy, teen movie that had great potential but fell far short of what it could have been.

I thought it was a decent movie. One of those that you put in if you need to waste some time but can't decide what to watch. About the only part that fell short was Lothos. He could have been flushed out and explained a little more. I thought the cast was pretty good to.
Its not the series, but I don't think it deserves half the criticism this fandom gives it. DrGreenEvil

yes i definitely like it. it could've been so much better if joss had more control but his script IS funny and it really is the beginning of buffy. There's a lot of lines that i still think are so funny (especially with buffy's valley girlfriends) and when buffy's dancing with pike at the prom and he says 'you're not like other girls buffy' and she says 'yes i am.' CLASSIC buffy.

I am not a huge fan of the movie, although I have it on DVD. I can appreciate and respect the film in terms of what it means for the mythology of the slayer, bu it doesn't really go beyond that for me. I look at the film as being Joss's first conception of what would eventually become a hit television series. The film opened the door for the series so for that I am thankful. It is just so hard for me to watch the movie when it is so far removed from the Buffy that I know and love. Sure, it can be good for a laugh, it has it's share of camp and comedic moments, but it just doesn't represent the Buffy that I watched change and develop over 7 years. The movie just lacks the spark of the show, imo. But to be fair, the movie only had an hour and a half format where the show had 7 seasons to expand. Overall, I think the television medium simply allows for more character progression than movies. Films, while enjoyable, have a much more limited time frame to work with. it's an awful movie, but just so much fun to watch. It's hilarious and lame, but i love to watch it and make fun. best line EVER: *while looking at a horrible mustard yellow leather coat* "It's so LUSH!" haha, i just love it... Maybe horrible mustard yellow was in style back then.

I love the original movie! I've watched quite a few times and I do associate it with the series. Except for the fact that Swanson's Buffy was a senior in High-School and when Gellar's Buffy starts school she isn't a senior. But other than that it sets the stage for the series really, It shows how Buffy used to be before Sunnydale (like Cordy lol) Until the end of the movie. Swanson's Buffy has a eye-opener and took off with Pike, who is never mentioned. Except he's in a Christopher Golden Buffy book entitled "Sins of the Father" Which I loved.
