Without Dawn, Season 6 wouldn't really work out at all imo. Even when she's at her lowest and just wants to shirk all responsibility, Buffy finds in Dawn a compelling reason to stay focussed and shoulder her burdens. Without her, I have little doubt that Buffy would have left Sunnydale early in Season 6, perhaps never to return...

this thread title made me smile ... but in reality: i think Buffy wouldn't have been able to deal with the potentials without Dawn... so take the good with the bad i guess.

You know, without a sister to worry about while taking care of Joyce, Buffy might have more free time on her hands. More time to spend with Riley, who then might have stayed. Anti-Riley/anti-Dawn people, think about that. Wonderful answer! *hugs Riley*

True, Dawn got on my nerves in the beginning (I think we as fans were threatened by her b/c she was new and we didn't know what the hell was going on), but by S7 Dawn had really began to grow and mature (she is only slightly annoying in S8 ). All and all, I can say that I'm glad Dawn became a part of the Buffyverse.

All and all, I can say that I'm glad Dawn became a part of the Buffyverse. I think that for most fans it worked the other day around. Firts she was new and exciting... and then she became annoying. But I never hated her.

admittedly, it took me a while to warm up to her character, but once I did, I accepted her as if she had been part of the Scoobies' all along.
And I've always thought fans should cut Dawn some slack for being so whiny and annoying. Let's face it, she's had a lot to deal with her life. Given the circumstances, I think she has developed into a remarkable young woman and an essential character.

If Dawn had never existed there wouldn't really be an annoying teenage character for fans to complain about lol

Hard to agree with you on the essential character part, once Joss turned her into some stupid giant robot thingy that prospect was thrown out the window.

If Dawn wouldn't exist:
It would be much better, because I don't like here and she was all whiny. And Buffy didn't have to die at season 5
