Not really confirmed, is it? "An actor friend of ours has clued us in to the casting of the new Buffy webisodes, which makes it sound like the proposed Web series is moving ahead quickly." Unless Joss or a production company says anything, I wouldn't get my hopes up. This sounds unprofessional. Btw, who is "someone who sounds like actor Daniel Craig to play a character based on the James Bond star"? Which character could that be?

Also recasting Faith would be a big bummer.

in #10, when Buffy and Willow are playing Anywhere But Here, Daniel Craig is featured in Buffys little fantasy
hmm, yeah, it doesn't look that professional but it's something i don't really care either way, i think motion-comics are pointless
edit: must remember to post faster

Scott Allie claims Dark Horse has no involvement in this, which is kind of puzzling to me. Presumably it will be using Jeanty's art, and it definitely will be using the scripts and original characters in the comic.
It's a licensed comic, so maybe Fox owns 100% of it and can do whatever they like with it? I certainly hope the writers and artists will be getting paid for this re-use of their work.
But yeah, motion comics suck. Why couldn't they at least put forth the time and effort to do a Flash animated series? 15-year-olds can make those in their bedrooms. I don't think the money and effort involved would be too much for 20th Century Fox to handle.
ETA: If they're going ahead and doing this, though, I think it's cool that they're also doing the one-shots like "Anywhere But Here" and "The Chain."
I wonder why there are no ads for the main roles, like Buffy and Willow, etc. Maybe they're casting those specially rather than via a cattle call?
Gotta say, though, their description of Faith's personality is a bit out-of-date. And Lady Genevieve is supposed to be 19, not in her late 20's.

I'm crossing my fingers that they have some of the series actors for the big roles and that's why they are not appearing in the casting call. I'm sure they could get the girl that did the Buffy Animated and the Video Games (she's pretty good) and maybe Nick Brendon, ASH, possibly Michelle? I'm not sure about Alyson since she didn't do the last video game (not sure why though). I hope they don't get the Willow from "Chaos Bleeds" because she was horrible.

Hopefully Joss will release something soon saying he is connected to this. It'll be nice to have something new in the Buffyverse, but I don't want to get my hopes up!

Just read about this over at Whedonesque. Honestly not sure how I feel about this though. If Joss is in no way involved then this could be a disaster, and if he's not than I really have no interest in this. As far as the voice acting goes, it would be really awesome to have at least some of the main cast return. Ok, so they won't get Sarah, but they could get Giselle Loren, she does Buffy pretty well. Hearing a bunch of unknown voice actors doing the parts would just totally throw me off, though. And if that's going to be the case I could just continue reading the comics myself, and hearing the characters voices in my head. Otherwise, the whole thing would be incredibly distracting and would take away any amount of joy I could possibly derive from the project. It is hard to believe that Joss wouldn't somehow be involved in this, seeing that Buffy is his universe, but I guess we will just have to wait and see. I am trying to reserve judgment until we hear more, but at the same time I am not getting overly excited either. Hope there will be more details released soon.... I'm crossing my fingers that they have some of the series actors for the big roles and that's why they are not appearing in the casting call. Same here. And I'm with you about not getting the person who did Willow's voice in Chaos Bleeds. She was terrible indeed! Really took away a lot of enjoyment from the game for me. Giselle Loren has always done a pretty good Buffy though, so I would settle for that.

The details of this are getting a bit mangled. It does seem like FOX is looking to make some money on the cheap. Maybe it'll be successful enough that they'll actually do something more worthwhile next time.

I don't get why this isn't being handled better? I mean, Marvel put a LOT of money into the production and advertising of their Astonishing X-Men motion comic... and while the X-Men may be more of a household name than Buffy (or, not), anything put out by Marvel, and not say, 20th Century Fox, or big name like that, would be construed as more aimed at a niched audience anyway. Instead of a proper press release, if this project is indeed going forward, all we're getting are a bunch of rather sketchy details here and there, and mostly of the "he said/she said" variety. Is Fox really that inept when it comes to marketing niched products? I mean... Dollhouse was a glowing representation of their marketing team's capabilities [/sarcasm]. And to just rip it off from under the feet of the people currently working on the source material (at least that's how I'm taking it, which explains Allie's reticence on the matter) is the second strike against them in terms of just pandering the Buffyverse. The first of course being the much hoohah-ed Kuzui revamp (pun!) of the movie. Which, btw, consisted of a bunch of rather sketchy reports here and there too.

A series would be 100% better, but a motion comic is better than nothing (for now). I hope it is successful so we might get A:ATF, Season 9 or a real comic series or all of them.

We already have a "real comic series". Two rather. S8 is as real as it gets, and I think IDW would also take offense at your insinuation that their ANGEL isn't "real".

I mean a real Animated Series of A:ATF and S9 and not a comic motion series of the two. (I know they are both 'real' (Canon) and I love Angel: After The Fall, more than any other comic book around!)

Think I'll be giving this a pass, even if it is on the web and free. I'd rather hear the actor's in my head while reading it instead of watching it with some random voices. That'd be too distracting, and might change how I read the issues.

Hey FOX! Guess what... a kid named Joe already did what you're proposing. Actually, I think he went beyond, and animated from scratch. And you responded by shutting him down on YouTube. Silly silly people... Could've just hired the kid for your project. PS: He's 15! Yes, I'm laughing.

If Fox could just bring themselves to contract with a couple of talented fans to do a real Flash animated series, they'd get a much better product for probably less money than they're paying for the "motion comic." I'd be interested in that, even if Joss wasn't directly overseeing it. (As long as it's his canonical story being told.) It completely bewilders me why some people think motion comics are impressive. Aren't we more jaded than that nowadays? I can't look at the things without thinking of those awful 1960's Marvel cartoons and their idiotically catchy theme songs. ("Doc Bruce Banner, belted by gamma rays, turned into the Hulk, ain't he un-glamor-ays?")

And putting that I worked for Fox on my resume would look good, as much as I hate them. Seriously, as an animator I think motion comics are the lamest lame to ever lame.

Besides the voice acting, animation quality and overall direction...
I am most worried about the score! Buffy always had great composers...the music was as much a part of the show as any of the other key elements. Getting Christophe Beck would make this seem so authentic

Pretty sure that since this was on scifiwire, its legit. I don't see them posting something like this unless it was for real, and not just some fan movie.
I hope that since characters like Buffy and Xander weren't on the casting sheet that they went and Got Giselle Loren and Nicholas Brendon to voice their respective roles.
But on Whedon not being involved with this. I have always thought that the non-Whedon Buffy stuff would be coming sooner than later. Fox has found a nice little superhero they can play with.
Looking forward to these though. But I really hope they start with "The Long Way Home" and not "No Future for You". People tune in to see Buffy, and I'm afraid if thats not the first thing they see, these won't go that far.
Hope these come to dvd. DrGreenEvil
