What I love?
A very funny, yet sometimes annoying, character that makes the show even that much better. One of my favourite all-time characters that I am very excited about to see what will become of him in the eighth season. When he mocks the main characters, especially in the first three seasons, it is always the funniest scene. Not much to dislike about him....
What I dislike about Giles:
Season 7 Giles/Buffy relationship. All his funny moments, most of them anyway, were taken away to show us the watcher inside. I understand they were in a time of war, but the way he went about doing things destroyed his character during that season.
Favourite Quote:
"Alright, I'll just jump in my time machine, go back to the twelfth century and ask the vampires to postpone their ancient prophecy for a few days while you take in dinner and a show."
Favourite Season:
Giles was at his best in s4. He was funny, we learnt more about him as he wasn't just the librarian/watcher.
Defining Moments:
When we get to see him drunk. XD

I can only provide my favorite quote, because Giles is just too awesome for me to write a bunch of words about: Buffy: Is that why you're always cleaning your glasses? So you don't have to see what we're doing? Giles: (cleaning his glasses) Tell no one.

What I dislike about Giles: Season 7 Giles/Buffy relationship. All his funny moments, most of them anyway, were taken away to show us the watcher inside. I understand they were in a time of war, but the way he went about doing things destroyed his character during that season. I disagree with this. I think season seven is a great year for the Buffy/Giles relationship because Buffy finally grows up and takes charge, which is exactly what Giles has wanted her to do for years. The last scene of "Lies My Parents Told Me" is the perfect culmination of their relationship. Just because they're not being all nicey nicey to each other doesn't mean it's bad character development. And there's plenty of funny Giles moments in season seven. Btw, my favourite Giles line: "Unbelievable. 'Do you like my mask? Isn't it pretty? It raises the dead!' Americans!" Tony Head's delivery just kills me every time.

What I like:Giles is a hot man. There I said it. I'm totally NOT one of those chicks who's all over the older guy but... DAYAM. But also he's super smart, and ultra caring. Complete daddy-factor minus the hottness. Oh, and did I mention that he can sing? What I don't like: Um... I really don't like it when anyone on the show questions Buffy's judgment. Like ever. For instance when Giles questioned Buffy's judgment about keeping Angel a secret in S3 when everyone flipped out EXACTLY like she thought they would, in effect justifying her actions, he pulls the big "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed" thing like all parents do. Oh, and like diabeticdude said, the majority of S7 where Giles was an IDIOT for not trusting Buffy. There I said it. He can't be perfect, ya'know. Favorite Quotes:- The earth is doomed
- You listen to me I'm your watcher so you do what I tell you so sod off!
- All we know is that the fate of the entire world depends on, did you eat all the jellies?
- We have to find Buffy something terribles happened. Just kidding I thought I'd give you a scare.
- She said I was an absent male role model, absent my ass. Bet I'm twice the man she is.
- In the midst of all that do you really think they were keeping it up? Oh for a different phrasing.
- Stop whatever your doing you smell like fruit roll-ups.
- You never train with me anymore he's going to kick your ass. Buffy: Giles! G: Sorry was that a bit honest?
- A watcher scoffs at gravity!
- Did you see that? Real live customers, they came in, I gave them things, they gave me money, brilliant.
- We are not your friends, we are not your way to Buffy, clear out of here, and Spike, get over it, move the Hell on.
- I'm so proud of you, you've come so far, you're everything a watcher... I could have hoped for.
- Welcome to the Nancy Tribe.
- The magics you've channeled are ferocious and primal and you are lucky to be alive you rank arrogant amateur!
- You're... Buffy: a miracle. Giles: Yes, but then I always thought so.
- You think I'm evil if I bring a bunch of girls on a camping trip and don't touch them?
- We all feel each other! Including some of us who don't know each other well enough to take such liberties.
- The earth is definitely doomed.
Many quotes from this site. Favorite Era:Either Season 3 or 5. Maybe 6 when we saw him... so many good moments. Defining Moments:Passion--Following the rose trail to Jenny Helpless--When he defied The Council. Band Candy--Ripper!! Revelations--When he scolds Buffy for not telling him Angel was back. Bad Girls--When he was being derogatory to Wesley. Hilarious. A New Man--Going after Professor Walsh... hilarious. Where the Wild Things Are--Singing Giles! Yoko Factor--Drunk, coping Giles Buffy vs. Dracula--Becoming Buffy's watcher again, right at the end Checkpoint--Standing up the The Council, again. The Gift--Killing Ben Afterlife--Scolding Willow Two to Go--"I'd like to test that theory" Grave--Laughing with Buffy over the crap that happened over the last year Lies My Parents Told Me--When he distracted Buffy to allow Robin to kill Spike Empty Places--Party to the horrid event that left Buffy homeless Chosen--Staying to fight by Buffy's side No Future For You--Deliberately keeping the dirty truth from Buffy, partnering up with Faith

What can I say about Giles? A lot really, but I will end up jumbling my words and it won't seem so cohorent (did I spell that right?). Giles is an interesting and very cool character. I don't want to embarass myself really so I won't go any further. I'll just leave it at that

I adore Giles! He is one of my most favorite characters out of the whole Buffyverse!
# What you love: I love how he is the father figure to Buffy; I've always looked at him as her father. He's so caring and nurturing, and everything that one would need in a father. He's so intelligent and always knows what to--it's a very reassuring feeling that one gets from his character. He can be such a bad-ass sometimes too and that's so awesome to see! Plus he's a sexy fuddy-duddy, and how that be anything but awesome? Plus...he's quite the amazing singer. # What you dislike: His dislike of Spike. # Favorite Quotes: There are a lot, and I, of course, can't remember them to save my life. # Favorite Era (Season): Season 3, and 6, when he was there. # Defining Moments: -Everything at the end of Passion--finding Jenny, going after Angelus, and the scene at the end of the episode. -Brushing off Jenny for Buffy when they are betrayed in Surprise. -Being an awesome Watcher in Season 3 -Band.Candy. -Getting a chainsaw and rescuing everyone in Fear, Itself -Scaring Maggie Walsh -Being the first person to comfort Buffy after Joyce dies -"I'd like to test that theory" -Both times that he says "The earth is definitely doomed"

Omg, Giles is my favorite male character on the show. He's got some of the funniest quotes out of everyone, and he's an amazing father figure. He's very sexy for an older man, mmm! Also, his singing is totally meltworthy.

I love Giles' and Buffy's relationship for most of the seasons. I believe that Giles always wanted to be like a father to Buffy (line from OMWF) but kept holding himself back. I knew in the beginning he couldn't do that because he was supposed to be her mentor and trainer yet I felt as Buffy grew older and more confident in season 7 he could have acted more of the father role. Some might think that it couldn't have been that way because Buffy is the slayer and she needs to be her own leader and Giles would only hold her back. But I seriously think family and friends are something that Buffy will always need. It's what set her apart from the other slayers and made her a stronger warrior.
I like that Faith and Giles are working together. I think that could have happened even if Giles and Buffy weren't estranged. Faith needs someone like him, well the someone he grew into. When they first met they really didn't mesh well. I also think Giles needs Faith. There is something about the two of them together that I just like. Buffy has always been the white knight and leader in the fight against evil. Giles and Faith share a more intimate knowledge with the evil and corruption which gives them a good basis for a connection.

Im not a huge fan so I will try to keep this short. Giles has his funny moments. He was alot more likable in the earlier seasons. I didn't like him much in late season five - seven.

God, what's not to love about Giles? He's funny, interesting, and sharp as a tack. He did what Buffy couldn't by killing Ben. His fatherly and supportive relationship with Buffy is one of the most touching aspects of the show for me. In the spirit of my current re-watch of Season One, here's my favorite Giles quote of the day: "I'll just jump into my time machine, go back to the 12th century, and ask the vampires to postpone their ancient prophecy for a few days while you take in dinner and a movie!"

What I love: I love the fact that Giles is the father figure of the group, and the glue that holds the gang together. I also like the fact that although Giles was the adult of the group, he was portrayed as still trying to find himself and discover his purpose in life. He didn't have everything together, his life wasn't perfect, and despite his great knowledge, he never pretended to have every answer. It is because of his struggle to find himself that Giles, even as the older, wiser, member of the group, is still very relatable to the others and they have a special bond and connection. Not to mention that I've always thought Giles very sexy for an older gentlemen. What I dislike: I don't dislike anything about Giles. The only thing I would say I don't like is his estrangement from the rest of the group in season7-8. Also, his going behind Buffy's back in season 7, even though he did it for what he thought was the greater good. Also the fact that he left in season 6, though I understand why. Favorite Quotes: "Yes, but you didn't, hone" (for some reason the way he says "hone" always makes me laugh.) "You never train with me anymore. He's gonna kick your ass." " Ah-ah, no. I am no Alfred, sir. No, you forget. Alfred had a job." "Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after" (My all time favorite Giles quote). "In the end we all are who we are, no matter how much we may appear to have changed." "The Earth is doomed" (Classic). "But I'm the one who always says let's have a jelly in the mix." "What ever happened to the still bearing heart of a virgin? Any respectable demon should be living in a pit of filth or a nice crypt. No one has any standards anymore." All the ones you guys mentioned are great as well. Favorite era: Definitely the first 3 seasons. I miss the tight knit closeness of the group, but hopefully we are getting back to that in season 8 with the reconciliation between Buffy and Giles. Defining moments: I think Giles getting fired from the council was a real defining moment in his development and a turning point for his character. It was during this time in his life that Giles was sort of aimless and at lose ends, trying to rediscover who he was as a person and his purpose in life, as well as how he could still be of use to the group having lost his official "watcher" status. I think it was during this phase of Giles life that he truly discovered just how tough and bad ass he was capable of being. I think he never gave himself enough credit prior to this point, seeing himself as the guy who "always gets knocked out." I also want to mention that I think another really defining moment for Giles came in season 2, "The Dark Ages," when Buffy and the others discover Giles's dark past. I think this revelation changed not only how the others saw Giles's character, but also how we the audience viewed him as well. Suddenly, he was much more than just "knowledge guy." We discovered that he was also very much a human being and, like the others, had made his share of mistakes in the past. I feel that Giles sharing the painful secrets of his past with Buffy and Co. only solidified the bond that the group shared and made it that much stronger (especially between he and Buffy). I feel that they came away with from this ep with a stronger connection and that Giles became even more relatable to them because he was no longer seen as the perfect, infallible, adult, but as someone who too has made bad choices and poor decisions and despite that fact is still standing. There is no denying that the unveiling of Giles past changed the way he was viewed by others, but I don't think it was in a negative way at all.

What I love: I love Giles - he's funny, interesting, smart and a great father figure. What I dislike: Whenever he doesn't trust Buffy or does things behind her back. Favorite Quotes: A lot... xD Favorite Era (Season): Probably season 3. Defining Moments: Passion, when he stood up to the council, killing Ben, losing his job, Band Candy... and a bunch more that I'm too lazy to remember.
