Halloween

The Good;
Pretty much everything, great ep, love the alternate Scoobies, the Xena ref, the first appearance of Ethan and Ripper, the fight in the pumpkin stall at the beginning, Dru and Spike back, Oz, Larry, Cordy in her pussycat costume, Willow getting 'Sexy and Wild' (love her strutting at the end, do you think she got any offers?) the list goes on. Buffy unknowingly impersonating Darla and fainting (but at least she doesn't get tied up) and clinging onto Cordy's arm

The Bad;
Open to suggestions?

Hard to pick but I'd say;
Willow "She couldn't have gone as Xena?
Just pipping Giles' "The ghost of what exactly?" upon seeing Will's streetwalker outft and "You went mental when?" from Cordy

Questions and observations:
Willow appears to be a Xena fan. Hmmmmm? Of course Xena started a couple of years before Buff and without it I don't think we'd have had Buffy. In one ep they refer to the play Buffus the Bachae Slayer. You could say that Spike's fascination with Buffy is evident in his watching the video of her fighting. Love Willow walking through the wall and people's reaction to it. The long tracking shot of Xander transforming into Rambo. Where are Joyce and Dawn during all of this? Either he reloads offscreen or Xander's rifle has a limitless magazine. Another hint of attraction between Cordy and soldier Xander. Angel wears a blue shirt which is ok but not really him. The Summers house get's trashed for the first time. How does the vamp Angel fights in the kitchen get in without being invited? First appearance of SDH's famous soda machine. Buffy get's sexually assaulted AGAIN, mauled by Pirate Larry (who really musn't be himself considering what we learn later). We discover that Cordy doesn't know Angel is a vamp. Xander tells Cordy she'll never get between Buffy and Angel, well almost. Giles tortures Ethan for info, the Scoobies really seem to have a knack for it.

10/10 afters a couple of false starts season 2 firing on all cylinders

[Just Willow]

"I like the man with the musket...do you have a musket?"

i enjoy this episode immensly. It shows girls exactly what female empowerment is, simply by taking it away. We get to see a shadow of Ripper-Giles, which is always AWESOME! and the look Giles gives to the camera at the end is incredible. We don't ever get a full at-the-camera stare like that again. Let's see, plently of humour, and some awesome Spike and Dru moments.

I love this episode. I would give it a 9/10
Its one of those episodes with the early years Buffy spirit. Everyone can have fun and save the day at the same time. I think Willow was really funny in this episode

[Skeptic]

I think this is the first episode where I really felt like the "voice" of the show had developed. You can literally take this ep and compare it to several eps in future seasons and it has much the same banter, feel, and tone.

Buffy's really feeling her work, here. She's really feeling that her work means that she's not going to be a normal girl who worries about nail polish and dating. She thinks about ambush tactics and beheadings. Having Cordelia rub it in doesn't help matters.

It's so hard to picture this Cordelia alongside the Cordelia that joined Angel in LA, and later the Cordelia that got a strong taste of character assassination in one of the worst plotlines I've ever seen on TV. I miss this Cordelia. She's witty, razor sharp, and decisive in her attacks, but underneath it all you just know she's trying to figure herself out and is probably feeling scared and lonely like every other teenager. Her coping mechanism is to make everyone else low, so she can feel that much higher.

This is the first time I really noticed Willow, too. She's starting to transform from quiet nerd dressed by mom, to goofy but cute girl testing the waters of adolescence. And she's cementing her friendship with Buffy, and wondering what it'd be like to date a cool guy in a band.

This episode is also when Xander gets his Army guy stuff, which we constantly play back to for the entire series. In fact, the Army guy stuff is front and center in Season 8, and no doubt a big reason why he's the General's right hand.

I love the eye Cordy gives to soldier Xander when he gives her his jacket. Sizzle.

Yeah it's subtle but the beginnings of Cander are definitely there (much like the infamous swimming pool scene in Go Fish). You could also say that here CC accepts she's not going to get Angel

How does the vamp Angel fights in the kitchen get in without being invited?

ha, that bugged me in the beginning but then I tried to reason the possible error that if the vamp was a person in a vamp costume then the spell was more like a glamor spell and didn't turn the people completely into what they were dressed up so the 'vampire rules' didn't apply.

Xander and Buffy's talk in the end about how they remembered everything and were 'there, but couldn't get out' makes me believe that theory.

I think Willow mention that Joyce was at an Art gallery or somehting like that right before they went there or when they got there. I may watch it tonight to see I do believe it was mentioned though. I remember thinking how convenient.
