* Title: No Compass(ion) * Challenge: #2 Villain's POV * Fandom: Buffy post-"Grave" pre-"Conversations With Dead People" * Pairing/Characters: The First Evil (possibly monologue-ing to a crazy Spike-in-the-basement) * Summary: The First Evil plots against Buffy, and ruminates on the First Slayer's bloody history. * Rating: PG * Warnings: Slightly violent imagery * Disclaimer: I am not Joss Whedon. Joss Whedon is infinitely smarter than I am and these characters are his. One girl in all the world. That’s how the legend goes. One girl, and she alone has the power to slay my children like cattle. Butchers. Human filth built from the dredges of the earth and flung into chaos with no map or compass or ANY compassion! That’s the Slayer, alright! That’s who humanity leaves their fates to! Did. Did leave their fates to. But all that has changed now. Petty witch couldn’t get by without her precious Slayer gal-pal, so she rises her from the earth. Like the ancestor. Now flung into chaos. No map. No compass. No compassion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Interesting choice going with the First, where you have very little to work with except motive and history. Nicely done with good word economy!

I love this piece!
I really feel like these are things The First would have said and/or thought. You took a character who had very little development and put a great creative spin on it.
One thing though.. I think you meant "raises" not "rises". Pretty point, I know, but it distracted me slightly.

This is fantastic! We never get the hear the 'raw' First, only when they assume the 'personality' of the dead person they appear as - so I found this really interesting.
I think you've done really well with what you had and I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Since I don't believe the First cares about anyone, not even it's "children" I have a hard time getting this drabble.
I can see the First saying this to Spike tough, to make him even more confused and crazy. Getting him mad at Buffy.

I think you captured The First's point of view well here. I'm not so sure all the anger and exclamation points in the middle fit him though. I've always thought of The First as someone that doesn't get angry at obstacles, but instead sees them as slight bumps in the road that is eternity.

Hey I can talk now! XD Thanks for the feedback guys. Some things: meliafairy: I did mean "rises". I was thinking, in that line, about the phrase "raised from the grave/dead" and didn't want to sound broken-record-much, so I used "rises" instead. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to distract you. But thanks for commenting! Secret Scoobie: Getting a true "voice" with the First is hard to do, since it doesn't really have a true from and always takes the form of whatever dead human just happens to serve its purpose best. I found it easier to use First Buffy, though - probably because she was the First more than anybody else. Thanks much! Skytte: I was speaking more from a demon history standpoint when I used the word "children". It wasn't meant to be a kinship type deal, but more like "I am the reason evil things exist and here's this little girl slaughtering them like she even matters to this world". But yeah, I mentioned crazy Spike in the title section because I had just finished re-watching Lessons (to get an idea of what to write about) and found that it might make more sense to people if they envisioned the First constantly babbling at Spike. Thanks for commenting! zorthrip: I was on the rush from writing about the First's anger at Buffy, the "light" in this situation, the Slayer to end all Slayers, so... yeah, that came out angry. I meant for it to be more snarky sarcasm. The First doesn't want this plan of its to go badly - after all, here's this perfect shiny opportunity to take down the entire Slayer line and let evil reign forever, as it always should, and the only thing left standing in its way is Buffy. Again, thanks all for commenting! I had fun, and the drabble format rocks. So much so that I started a thread for my own monologue drabbles in the Fanfics section. You should check them out.
