Hi guys, I'm making a Buffy boardgame. It's not going to be a professionally printed game, with tons of awesome plastic figures, it's going to be a DIY print-glue-cut boardgame.
The concept is to be a cooperative game (ie, all players are acting as a team VS the game, meaning all players win or all players lose). The rules borrow and adapt elements from Arkham Horror (Call of Cthulhu boardgame) and A Game of Thrones (boardgame based on G.R.R. Martin's novels), plus ideas of my own. I have most of the basic rules concepts written, but now I need to design the board to playtest them. And I'm not sure how to proceed. So I'm asking your opinion on the matter.
What do you consider the most important: - A board that represents Sunnydale as accurately as possible but may end up unweildy and cluttered? - A board that uses a more abstract representation of Sunnydale, better balanced, but possibly less flavorful.
At the moment I have tried to stay as close as possible from semi-canon maps of Sunnydale, but it proves to be a major PITA, so I'm considering trying a more abstract representation (keeping all the major landmarks, of course).
Also, in general, what would you like to see in a Buffy cooperative boardgame? Would you be interested to play such a game?
Thanks for your input.
Mike

This sounds like a great idea! If they don't make one, make one for yourself and friends. Karma for having a great idea!

this sounds like a really great idea. I think sticking to the major landmarks would be the best idea, have you decided what seasons it set in because landmarks like the highschool or the magic box change or disappear. Other than that it's a great idea and one that sounds really interesting.

Thanks for the comments. The game is designed to be used to play any of the show's seasons, and any other idea you might come up with. At the beginning of the game, you will either draw a Season Card or choose it if you don't want it to be random. A Season card represents the "mission" for that particular session of the game, with its specific Big Bad to defeat, as well as a few more adjustments to the standard rules to make it feel really different from the other Big Bads. Adjustments include, but are not limited to: the number of turns before the game ends, the difficulty to find the Big Bad, etc.

Nope, it's a gamer's project I also happen to be a fan of Buffy (duh!), so I decided to make my dream game And then I dedided that when it's done I might as well share it, so that's why I was asking for some feedback. I'm way too old for school/college Mike
