I never realised before that Buffy ends that speech with Judge Dredd's catchphrase!

Selfless. Easy. I was surprised it was already mentioned a few times here. It's just really solid, well written, stunningly acted and gave Anya what she deserved. It's so hard to describe my affection for it. As for the mention of the part in later episodes where Anya says "I'm not your friend" is very much like when Willow offers to kill Anya. Just bad writing. Total character misteps.

It's so hard to decide...I do love Selfless. Anya is easily my favorite character, so it's hard to not love that episode. There are others, the typical favorites, that make it a tough decision - The Body, Hush, The Gift. And Conversations with Dead People -- it's funny that my least favorite seasons (4, 6, 7) have some of my favorite episodes.

I’m just going to jump on in without reading the other posts (bad board etiquette, I know) But I promise I will read them – the title was just too enticing and I needed to add my very very important opinion.
S04E09 ‘Something Blue’ always sticks out as my favouritist and bestest episode ever.
It starts off generic with Willow sitting in the dark, hurting about the demise of her relationship with Oz, corny conversations between Buffy and Riley.
Then after the credits – it’s Buffy and Giles feeding a shackled Spike blood from a mug labeled ‘Kiss the Librarian’. That’s just awesome.
Buffy taunting Spike ‘Giles help! He’s going to scold me’ and the camera on Spike doing a zombie impression – has me in helpless giggles.
Xander seeing Willow dancing and saying ‘I believe that’s the dance of a brave little toaster’. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve managed to work that line into my real life, granted no one gets it, but as long as it’s funny to me , that’s all that counts.
Then ‘hanging by a thread’ Willow, does yet another of her inadvertent spells, and the best part of this episode ensues…
To Giles – ‘You don’t see anything’ and he keeps fiddling with his glasses. Even though he’s blind.
To Amy – she appears for 1 second – cool fan moment, one thing I’ve always loved with this show is that for the exception of Nikki Wood, the same people come back no matter how many years down the track it may be. (I can’t be alone in how amazing the ‘The First’ sequence was in season 7 with, the master, the mayor, adam, glory and buffy)
To Buffy – Finding Spike in 2 seconds. And then just goes and ‘marries him’“Oh Spike, Of course it’s yes!’ Buffy says as she kisses Spike. Her nemesis.
To Xander – ‘You’re just a demon magnet’
Then this episode gets awesome, Buffy on Spike’s knee planning their wedding, Spike kissing Buffy’s pouty lip (gonna get it) Then that great moment where Buffy asks Giles to give her away – his brief moment of happiness at that request is worth so much.
The Buffy and Riley exchange where he’s completely thrown as she tells him about marrying Spike. I felt for Riley – what a bizarre conversation to have after a cute picnic scored with sexual metaphors.
Xander’s fruit rollups of looove. And Giles yelling at Xander ‘Stop, you smell like fruit rollups’ hehehe – yes, I find this hilarious. I keep rewinding Gile’s line. I’m so lame.
Buffy thinking she’s immune from the spell – until it’s over and she find she’s kissing Spike.
The ensuing retching.
Willow’s lame cookies to make up annoyed me. But it’s a little annoyance to how great this episode is.

I agree that "Something Blue" is one of the best episodes of the show, and second only to "Living Conditions" for laughs. It's definitely one of those episodes that I will put on if I just want to see an episode in isolation.
In fact, I'm gonna watch it right now...

im tied between selfless and potential
selfless because i love anya, i love everything about her character and i think emma caulfield plays her beautifully. i love the background into her story, and i love how it shows how much she's grown but is still trying to get a feel for who she is without justifying herself through others (ie. xander).
potential, i love the scene at the end between dawn and xander, it makes me tear up everytime i see it. because what he says to her is so true about both of them and i think its such a significant moment for both of them, to realise that they both know how it feels.

I just watched Potential the other day! It's not my favorite episode, but I do love watching it. The speech at the end is so perfect and heartbreaking, but it's so nice to know that Dawn and Xander have that outsider-ness in common. I feel for Dawn in this episode, because she has so much more experience in the Slayer life than all of those potentials put together, and she would've been validated in a way that they don't really understand. It would've been a nice bond for her to develop with Buffy if she had really been a potential. Selfless is amazing in so many ways--The missus song, the Swedish, the flashbacks. My favorite part is one that is not often mentioned but resonates with me. I love the part when Buffy, Xander, and Willow are arguing about Buffy wanting to kill Anya so quickly...Buffy bringing up the "I had to kill Angel" subject was fantastic...as a major fan of Becoming 1 & 2, I've been dying for the Xander lie to get brought up(I kinda hated him for that lie, and it ruined him for me). I was glad that it got semi-resolved, but not so much. There's so much more that could've gotten discussed regarding that subject, but it's ok; I'm happy it was spoken about. This episode, for me, was the highlight of Season 7. I loved how it worked, especially before the potentials came around and messed with everything.

I can't just pick one.
My favorites: Restless, Something Blue, Puppet Show(don't ask), Tabula Rasa, Hush.
I can't choose between them. It's far too hard.

--
This reminded me of the other awesome Xander speech of Season 7.
Xander: I've been through more battles with Buffy than you all can ever imagine. She's stopped everything that's ever come up against her. [Buffy and Faith walk in] She's laid down her life -— literally -— to protect the people around her. This girl has died two times, and she's still standing. You're scared? That's smart. You got questions? You should. But you doubt her motives, you think Buffy's all about the kill, then you take the little bus to battle... I've seen her heart, and this time, not literally. And I'm telling you, right now, she cares more about your lives than you will ever know. You gotta trust her. She's earned it. ---
I'm in freaking tears every time I hear that. So I'm going have to put 'Dirty Girls' right up there with my favourites. I've found that even if the episode as a whole is not so good - there is that one moment, and that's all it takes for you to watch it.

yes, my favorite episode by far, is restless. because of these 10 reasons... 1. it has the best ending because of that awesome quote Tara says. "You think you know. What's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun." 2. I love the fact it is based on dreams and not reality. 3. the cheese guy! 4. I love the fact that we finally got to see the first slayer, and get to know a little about the slayer's origin. 5. the score for that episode is awesome, to the fast, to the slow music 6. It is not your typical buffy season finale. a typical buffy season finale would end with her finally stoping the big bad. 7. They hinted about Dawn in that episode if you didn't know. I rewatched it last night, and heres a part from it.... 8. Tara was flawless in that episode, in my opinion. 9. This episode was the reason why i bought season 4 first. 10. and this episode was a really great way to some up the season.

Right now, my favorite episode is Hush. I think the acting is terrific. I love the use of the overhead projector by Giles. I love Buffy miming the staking of the Gentlemen and it looking like jacking off.

It's so hard to choose! I would say Restless for all the reasons already stated, as an episode it's fantastic! But then if I were to watch any episode of Buffy randomly out of sequence it would always be OMWF! I have the soundtrack! I love it! The first time I saw it the thing I loved most was how unexpected it all was! Sort of like in superstar, everything is different, I love that random change of everything for comedic value (I'm not keen on it for non-comedic value ie Dawn's arrival)

Hard choice, but I'd go with The Body . Every episode has its ups and downs for me. Its like "Ew here comes Angel" or "More shirtless Spike ..yawn". But The Body kept me inside the episode for the whole duration. I love the simplicity to it and the way it was shot, it was just done so effectively. I love Buffy saying "Good luck" to the paramedics, her and Tara's bonding moment in the hospital, and especially when Buffy asks the doc if there was pain and he says "No. But I have to lie to you to make you feel better".

If I was going to say best episode rather than my favourite episode I think I'd go for conversations with dead people. I don't know what it is about it but I think it's an amazing episode.

Well, there's quite a handful. For my favorite it'd be 'Once More, With Feeling'. For, IMO, the BEST episode I'd pick 'The Body'. ('The Gift' is a close second, take note!)

I'm going to skip the usual favourites (OMWF, Hush, The Body etc). I still can't pick a favourite, but I will say that I really love "Checkpoint". I love the whole message in the episode, and all the interviews with the scoobies are just hilarious. I love the little scene between the Summers clan and Spike. I don't know, for some reason I always thought it was a really solid episode.
I always clap along with the Scoobies after Buffy's awesome speech too. And the throwing of the sword? That really was excellent.

My absolute favourite Buffy episode is The Gift. It is just so well made. The direction, the acting, the effects. Everything about it is so amazing. I also think it's the most epic Buffy finale.
I'm going to bypass the usuals, OMWF, Hush, The Body etc. and go with my other favourites.
What's My Line Pts 1 & 2. I love Buffy's jealousy over Kendra, the career fair storyline, Xander and Cordy finally getting together and the whole ritual to restore Drusilla to health.
Surprise and Innocence. I love Angelus, and Buffy's dreams forcasting what's going to happen are amazing. Plus the whole slow-motion killing of The Judge is great.
Selfless. I'm not usually a huge fan of Anya, but I love this episode, especially the lost song from OMWF.
Graduation Day Pts 1 & 2. Awesome way to end the high school years. Angel feeding on Buffy is so awesomely erotic, the Buffy and Faith fight and then dream sequence are great and I love the blowing up of the school.

I could hardly decide between Pangs and Something Blue. Both were hilarious. I guess I would choose Pangs. It was just a fun/hilarious episode. I love Buffy trying to make the perfect Thanksgiving, Willow trying to reason with the vengeance demon, sick Xander being taken care of by Anya while they debate on rather you should kill a vengeance demon,Spike's "Kill or be Killed" speech with Giles basically saying the same thing before but no one listened. Spike having multiple arrows sticking out of him during the fight and him screaming "a bear..you made a bear!" was also hilarious lol. I also love Angel returning for an episode.
