I'm guessing that it's going to be introduced as something new that she's discovered she likes. Buffy likes gardening now. And also doing dishes and hemming clothes. The outfits are also kinda killing me too, but I guess it's undercover wear. But I'm choking with laughter at the fashion conscientious slayer wearing the loose, non-form-fitting robes of the Yak. I'm not sure there's much of anything right now that could be classified as out-of-character for Buffy. She's in such a state of flux right now, and feeling so overwhelmed that she'd grasp at anything that seems to bring a breath of peace, no matter how temporary or artificial. Any minute now she's going to tell people to start calling her "Anne." (I think she looks kind of adorable in her Boutique Buddhist outfit.)

LMAO at the Anne comment. Yeah. I just spend way too much attention to what Buffy's wearing. Her fashion sense has always been very connected to who she is. It's why I've written before how her wearing the commando gear in Season 8 (compared to her eschewing it in Season 4 but accepting it from Riley in As You Were) is symbolic of her getting lost in the mission. So her wearing the Yak clothes - it just further drives home that she's not setting the tone here. That she doesn't know who she is anymore. Will Buffy Summers please stand up?

i think it's normal buffy wants to settle down a little. i think that it dosent really matter for her what shes gonna do. shes just wanna settle. AND i think shes gonna be like when she was fleeing from glory... gonna be like i saved everyone a thousand times, now im a villan? so im gonna settle and be happy, in a place without magic.

Hopefully its not just that the writers arent paying attention to the story anymore, but its probably because Buffy wants to finally settle down and cant. At the end of Chosen, she felt like she was finally given the chance to live a normal life because there were others who could pick up the mantle, but I think this may end up with Buffy finally seeing that the Slayer was meant to be only one, or two, you know.

Love Jo's cover, as always. I definitely think that's Faith in the variant (she's traveling with Giles who is in the primary cover).
This "retreat" thing seems to be something Buffy does a lot. I never noticed it before, but I find it interesting. Like the calm before the storm, both to avoid any attacks in the meantime and to gather her strength.
I !love the first cover for this especially. She's getting back into meditation, which I have always thought she needed since she came back from the dead. And with Willow and Giles! Two people she's arguably been most distant with. I'm not hasty to view their backs to each other as a symbol that they will be working against each other, despite TOYL. My first impression was they are finally working together again, perhaps even a resolution, a "couples therapy" of sorts spearheaded by Giles. Love it!
(I'm pretty sure TOYL didn't resolve that Willow would be fighting against or kill Buffy at the end of S8. What would S9 be without Buffy? My thought is that Willow betrays Buffy to her demise, leading to the situation we saw in TOYL.)
Excited for this issue, mostly because this season needs a good kick in the Yak!

That might be a stupid question but does willow know that Buffy killed her in the future? That she went bad again?

That might be a stupid question but does willow know that Buffy killed her in the future? That she went bad again? I don't think Buffy told her. That's how it works. That's what makes good stories in the end, right? Willow will probably end up killing Buffy because this is her destiny. And Buffy will come back from the past to kill her too. The writing's on the wall. I'm going to be honest here. This is actually the only storyline that has caught my interest in Season 8 so far. But I'm pretty excited about it. Edit: Oh and from that perspective my banner really kicks ass, so avant-gardist!!!

Buffy is clearly acting out of character, but shes supposed to be. Buffy has been ripped out of the world that she is used to and is now commanding an army on a global scale. She has completely changed countless peoples lives and has no one to blame but herself and her team. She isnt in Sunnydale anymore, hell when was the last time she was slaying an actual vamp in a cemetary since A Beautiful Sunset? (And thats something I have a problem with).

Jo's cover is awesome, really creates a sense of inner relazation, but this is probably the first time that i have also liked the Jeanty cover, like the sense of tranquility it creates. Good stuff from both of them

Does anyone else see the anger, or disappointment in Giles's eyes? Think he may be up to something...or against their use of magic.

Holy COW I love Jo Chen's cover. It's beautiful. Both Buffy and Willow look amazing in it, but it seems like Buffy's just getting more and more attractive with the passing years. Variant cover: Buffy's hoe-in' around! ... It's weird, a few months ago, I had a very vivid dream of Buffy being in Tibet-ish, and she was there meeting with someone who was helping her with some guidance in regards to slaying, but the essence of the whole thing is that she was getting away from something or someone who wanted to find her. Sigh, I wish I had time to write fanfic. I'm really excited about this issue!

I have to go back and re-read some issues and try and read a little more between the lines. But right now, my biggest gut feeling is that Willow has something specific to do with the world being without magicks as well as the magicks suddenly being back, and the Slayer line starting anew.

Although I'm glad Oz is back, I feel sorry for him...Buffy showing up at his haven automatically makes it next on the "To Destroy" list for Twilight I really hope Oz doesn't die.

But I really hope it's going to end this way. It woould make Seasons 8 and 9 as worth reading as the seasons of the TV show were worth watching. I hope Willow is going to kill present Buffy and past Buffy will come back to kill Future Willow as seen in TOYL.
