Looks like Rowena/Leah, Faith, Oz, Xander, Kennedy, Satsu, Buffy.

Oh, okay. The other brunette is Kennedy.

i think the helmet girl is dawn... and down on her, kennedy. i liked the angry " i'm gonna kill you bitch" face of xander. i think this issue will end with a BOOM big, that we'll go crazy... *very scared, and excited about this issue*
and willow absence with giles? does that mean that they;ll be together? maybe giles helping willow handle with the no magic stuff???

I've discovered the flaw of Season 8. Too many brunettes that look sulky - Faith, Kennedy, Dawn. The only people who stand out to me immediately in this cover as recognizable are Xander, Buffy, Satsu (because of her funky hair) and Oz (who's wolfed out). Cool cover, but also color me dim - what is it an homage of? I mean, is there a specific cover of Sgt. Fury that this is referencing? ETA: Ah, found it.

Yeah, that was a classic Jack Kirby cover. Somebody should show this to Nick Brendon... he'll be begging to do season 8.
Seriously, though, I wonder how they expect to shoot their way out of this situation? Do they really have the resources or the skills to fight a toe-to-toe gun battle against the forces Twilight can bring against them? Granted, the Chinese government probably isn't about to let some foreigner in a luchador mask march an army into Tibet... especially not General Voll and his Americans... but the Slayers have no experience with guns and no Slayer magic to help them gain quick aptitude with weapons.
I think I'm gonna go to church and light a candle for these poor girls.
ETA: I don't think we should draw any similarities between the plot of that Fury comic and the plot of Buffy. Georges was probably just making a homage to the artwork. Jack Kirby is famous for his great action poses.

That cover by far (Jeanty) is my favorite alternate cover from this Season!! Wow it's so retro and cool!

I don't know what to think of the Jeanty cover. I guess you have to be a comic book fan to appreciate the homage.

Love the variant!
the contrast between all the guns/grenades with Buffys shiny scythe looks awesome.

If that's Rowena on the far left, I wonder where Leah is? On second thought, I don't think I want to know.

This cover is so fun, I love seeing Xander as Nick Fury. It makes me want more classic Marvel-inspired covers. How about X-Men #1? The Scoobies battling Twilight? Or Avengers #4?

Maybe Georges just needed an extra Slayer to balance the picture, and Rowena's short hair made her the better choice... Leah tends to upstage other characters she's in the frame with. Poor redheaded, redshirted Leah.

Well... maybe Jo will do a cover featuring some new Slayers, including Leah at some point, and you'll be even more obsessed.

Sadly, I don't think either will make it past Season 8, and I think at least one will die before Retreat is finished.

Karma for you! I bet it's safe to say that since one cover is an homage of the other, and that we know a betrayal is coming up, that we can expect it to happen fairly soon. I hate the thought, though. I say the word "betrayal", and I instantly flash back to that panel in #10, of Buffy laying on the floor in the stone room, all beat up, crying... sigh. I am really gonna hate this.

This man speaks the truth. I have no idea what it is about the character, but I've been obsessed with her ever since that first scene at the church. It's because she's Scottish. I remember my friend and I invented an elaborate backstory for Leah, something about her picking fights outside nightclubs on Sauchiehall Street. She's a total ned.

Count me in on the serious Leah fixation. Everytime I see her in a panel, I have to bust out the song "Ah! Leah!"... www.youtube.com/watch?v=i19DrZUr7u0
