Faith looks a little generic and Xander has his Bruce Campbell-chin again (Nicky Brendon must be sleeping with Jo Chen), but this is a gorgeous piece of artwork and one of my favourite Chen covers so far. I think Buffy looks absolutely beautiful, I can't take my eyes off her.  As for character choice, I quite like that B-listers like Ken and Satsu made the cut. Especially Satsu, since it's fun to see her in photorealistic art. I can cope without Willow, since she's kind of a cover hog, but it would be nice for Dawn and Andrew to grace a TPB cover. Like others, I'd love to see a definitive Season Eight cast shot, with the whole team. |

I actually like the cover (and some of you know i'm not a huge Jo Chen fan). I usually find that Buffy looks too tired in a lot of Jo Chen's art, but here she looks gorgeous. Love it.

I disagree with those who think the likenesses are off. Jo Chen did an incredible job. Faith is the only character whose likeness is not perfect but I could still tell it was her!

What I meant is that despite the fact Faith's likeness was not perfect, I was still able to recognize her easily (not always the case). The other characters are close to perfect in my opinion. Hence the "incredible job". I do have the same standards and expectations, only we're not seeing the same thing!  |

I like, I like... but why no Willow? Faith looks a lot like the DST Faith figure. I still think it is one of the best covers.

Does that mean that either Willow or Dawn could be Twilight? Some people said that Jo Chen knows the end of Season 8 and that she gets to pick who she draws... or would that be WAY too obvious?

Like mentioned earlier, Willow has already been on two TPB covers. Jo probably just wanted to let some other characters shine, like Kennedy and Satsu, for once.
Plus, Twilight is a male.

I'd love to see Jo draw Leah and Rowena. A nice group shot of Buffy and her team (Leah, Satsu and Rowena) would be amazing. If I could afford it, I'd commission Jo to paint that for me. |

Oooh, I wanna see a Jo Chen of Leah! I bet she'd be a hottie, too. That big poofy mane of dayglo red hair would probably be really sultry and fiery with dark highlights in a Jo Chen cover, bet... And the cover for this TPB? LOVE it. If I was told I could take any of the TPB's and blow them up and have them signed and framed and hung in my office under track lighting... this'd be it.  I think the likenesses are pretty great. Close enough so that I don't have to ask who someone is, or come read the board to find out who they are. And I don't want the likenesses to be 100%. I want them to look like someone worked very hard to draw them and put heart and soul into the art, as much as they put in time and effort. |

Everytime I hear someone saying "the likenesses aren't perfect" or think that way myself, I always ask myself:
Could I do better: Hell no!
Do I know an artist who could do better: Maybe Alex Ross, and even then, I don't think so.
Both answer being no, I decided shut up and eat my awesome

Erm, whether or not I can do better at an illustration is not the point. The point is that Chen HAS done better in the past. Maybe, but you can't ask an artist to be at the top of her game EVERY month. It's unrealistic. This one might not be her best, but it's still pretty great. At least that' what I tell myself. |

I made no such request. I was merely commenting on the dropped ball. And I'm also doing it with the knowledge that for some reason, Chen always gets the "Get out of jail free" card whenever her likenesses aren't perfect, when Jeanty gets lynched all the time. Chen made her bed; she opted for very lifelike painted covers as her forte. When she fails in that regard, it's usually quite glaring. |
