Last summer I had a hard time falling asleep - too many things on my mind, so I thought I'd try something new. I learned all the episodes' names and their writers by heart and started recounting them as an equivalent to counting sheep. Still today, it nearly always works. Sometimes it only takes me three to four episodes. Yesterday I reached 6.22 Grave David Fury. Pondering over whether 6.21 Two to Go was by Marti Noxon or by Doug Petrie I fell asleep. -- The writer was Doug Petrie and I was wrong :-)
Do you think this is crazy? Do you have any Buffy strategies that help you through your life?

That is bloody brilliant!! I guess for others who are not as hardcore could just recount every episode plot from beginning to end, instead of names and writers.

Exactly: plot recounting is also very efficient.
Other things I have started to recount were names of demon per episode.
I tried to learn the Angel episodes by heart as well, but I don't have such a strong connection to them, so I'm having a hard time with that.

I was at the dentist about a week ago, and decided I had to get into a happy place to survive getting a tooth pulled. I decided upon singing (in my head obviously, lol) the entire of Once More With Feeling in my head. I got up to Walk Through the Fire but by then the drugs and pain had me so knocked about that I just kinda got stuck on a line and keep singing it over and over... It was like a broken record in my head!!!

I actually do what Darth Rosenberg does, except with Angel episodes. I ended up learning Season One by heart because I could never remember them all, seeing as they're almost all stand-alones. I get a little confused in the beginning of S2 after Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been, but after that it's cake. I should do writers next. And if I don't know I can just guess: Jeffrey Bell, Mere Smith, Tim Minear, Steven S. DeKnight, or if it's Season Four, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain.

I'm going to try that! I don't think I have any Buffy life strategies from before, but the counting episodes/writers/plots thing sounds like an awesome thing to do if I can't sleep (which is often), or whenever I just want to think about something else.

Oh wow, that sounds like a good idea. The only problem is, it's too hard for me to remember all the episodes, especially in order. I remember sometime in HS I tried to list every single one, but I always seem to forget some.

I pretty much do this every night. It varies as to what I'm thinking about as I my thoughts aren't straight forward facts so much as my opinion. Usually I discuss with myself why Anya's personal arch is so awesome and how she deserved her face on one of the discs, which leads me to be angry that Cordelia didn't get one in Season Three, but Spike did and so on. Usually I ramble on into a different topic and only sometimes find my way back.

Like she was such a small part of the show, right? I know some people don't like her & think she was minor, but she wasn't. Maybe I'll try doing something like this tonight. I have class early & it usually takes me awhile to fall asleep.

Yeah, she needed a disc. Tara got one and she wasn't even a regular.(Not that I'm all that complaining about it, she deserved it, she's been on the show for awhile).

Sometimes when I can't sleep, I picture myself at the original Angel Investigations and Angel and I count ugly sweaters. I have very neutral feelings about Angel, so he's kind of the perfect character to do a dull task with. I swear it works too. Out cold in 10 minutes.

When I was on anaesthetic a few weeks ago getting my face cut open, I thought of Buffy and Spike fighting each other in a church. Not real sure if it helped with the pain lol

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does crazy stuff like this XD
If I can't get to sleep I will like... write fics in my mind. Either stuff I'm working on (what will happen next) or stuff I might want to do in the future...
Although none of you have mentioned doing exactly that so maybe I am odd, heh.

Last night I tried naming every episode, but got as far as Never Kill a Boy and couldn't remember the order of the rest. Oh, and I forgot Teacher's Pet, too. Geez. I can't even remember the order of five episodes, lol. I ended up trying to sing through OMWF in my mind. I finished Under Your Spell, then somehow had the Gentlemen's song stuck in my head, and then I think I feel asleep. Guess it does work.

You know, whenever life gets me down, I just think, "Well at least I'm not working at Doublemeat Palace." and then everything seems to get better.

This was a brilliant idea! I could have used it, about a week ago:). I try to think of Buffy during things that I don't enjoy, like getting a procedure done, working out(haha), or just studying or something. I try to think of what Buffy would act like in a situation and then get all motivated and such. It's not exactly what you did to recall everything, but I'll call certain situations to mind to get me through hard times: Becoming fight scenes, The Gift ending, etc.

Haha, awesome thread idea! When I can't sleep I just close my eyes and try to imagine myself patrolling the graveyard with the scooby gang, or otherwise just hanging out with them. Does that count? I agree with Greer, I often use Buffy as inspiration to get me through hard times. I think about how she would handle a given situation, and then try to act accordingly.

Speaking of getting through hard times with Buffy. I was really sick today so I watched a lot of season six today in order and ended it with "Lessons." So I went through I hard time with good ol' Buff Buff right until it got better. And guess what, right after Lessons, I felt the most amazing I had felt all day. It was probably more to do with the all the medical stuff I used to make it better, but "I make my own fun."
