So, I'm new here, see. I come here to talk about one of my favorite character and, what do I see? There is NO thread about him. Well, I'm in a forgiving mood, so instead of transforming you all into toads, I'm instead going to create a thread for him.

I thereby declare open the character appreciation thread for

ETHAN RAYNE

Who is Ethan Rayne? He is Rupert Giles' evil tweed. He is the dark side of British Charm. He is the new trickster god.

I love Ethan Rayne because he is a fun character. He is a practical joker. The episode where he is the vilain are among the funniest episode on the show. He was also one of the only "villains" not to be evil. He was chaotic and egoistic, sure, but all he wanted was to have fun. Ok, his definition of fun meant cursing people and traficking with demon, but hey, nobody's perfect ;D

He his also critically underappreciated. Every project where he could have played a major role (Giles' spinoff and Buffy: The Animated Series) never happened. And in Season 8, he got offed. I understand why: because of the structure of a comic-book, there wasn't any place for his role as a trickster/change-of-pace character. I was still sad when he got killed.

So, I created this thread for every would-be chaos sorcerer to come and express your love for the great man that was Ethan Rayne.

I too am fascinated by Ethan. Part of me is hoping that he didn't die in the comic - that it was an illusion.

I'm in the Ethan appreciation club! He was always an entertaining character to see pop up (although I think in part this is due to the very few times he does - 4 I think?). My favourite episode of his has to be "A New Man" - especially the bar scene with Giles.
I love this encounter:
GILES: Where am I? I'm an unemployed librarian with a tendency to get knocked on the head.
Ethan: Well, we won't have to worry about that anymore now, mate. (serious tone) When you went to the loo I slipped a small pellet of poison in your drink. You'll be dead in an hour.
(pause)
ETHAN: Just kidding!
