Recommendation: DC Heroes Comics?

Hey, so I want to get into a few of the DC comics, I am interested in getting a trade each of the characters I like. Can anyone recommend one essential trade paperback/ min-series? I am mostly interested the more present darker storylines. (if any are) so far I picked up Nightwing: The Great Leap and really enjoyed it.

• Superman (I will pick up a few of these.)
• Green Lantern (Hal Jordan and Kyle Rayner)
• The Flash (Bart Allen and Wally West)
• Aquaman
• Batman
• Wonder Woman
• Supergirl
• Green Arrow

and maybe:
•Donna Troy
•Cyborg
•Black Canary

Green Lantern and Flash have both recently had "Rebirth" storylines that are worth reading. Green Lantern is also currently into a rather morbid story right now called Blackest Night, an event which is overtaking all the DC books currently.

For Batman, can't go wrong with The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns.

I second HH's recommendations. For Green Lantern, I would also check out the Sinestro Corps Wars, which leads into Blackest Night. It's really good.

They have had some big events over the past few years that are worth it, like Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, and Final Crisis (lots of Crises).

Arkham Asylum is a great Batman book. There's also this collection called False Faces that has some Batman and Wonder Woman stories by Brian K. Vaughn (BTVS S8).

Identity Crisis is a pretty good read, the first DC story I read and I've been hooked ever since
